Review summary

This was a 9 day cruise up the eastern seaboard into Nova Scotia. The ship is magnificent and the food was excellent. My only suggestion would be for them to have more soft serve machines and that they remain open later. Definitely go on the North Star. If you're ever in the Saint John, New Brunswick area, be sure to go.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was easy & we went straight to Vintages for bubbly while we waited for the rooms to be open.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The Windjammer was amazing - stepped up a bit from some of our previous cruises. The Main Dining rooms seemed a bit crowded but we rarely ate there since we bought a 5-night specialty restaurant package. The specialty restaurants were excellent - especially Wonderland (highly recommended).

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows were amazing but my only complaint was that in some cases the sound was so loud, it hurt. Earplugs are recommended. However the special effects in TWO70 are fantastic.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the waiters & staff were extremely friendly & helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
It's a relatively new ship and has a lot of bells & whistles. A very fun ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very comfortable with 1.5 bathrooms & didn't feel cramped in the living space or balcony.

Ship tip

Go on the Northstar but sign up early. Walk all over the ship to find all the fun areas. Prepare to get lost.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

This where we boarded. Industrial port so not too interesting.

Boston, Massachusetts Did not visit port

It was a ways into town from the port & we decided not to go in.

Bar Harbor, Maine Did not visit port

Weather was rainy & you had to catch a tender into the port.

Portland, Maine

5 out of 5
Can easily walk through town. Nice shopping & lots of food places to eat.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Very nice city & easy to walk into town. A lot of places to shop & eat & there are gardens if you want to walk a few blocks.

Saint John, New Brunswick

5 out of 5
We took an excursion to the Hopewell Rocks. It was fantastic and our tour director was wonderful. If you have a chance, it's well worth the trip. It was a long ride to get there (about 2 hours) but was fascinating & the box lunch was excellent.

Disembarkation

Very easy. If you're going to the airport, I recommend getting the transfer. It may be a little more, but it is also very easy.
