Review summary

We were pleased with most aspects of the ship and the cruise. The smaller size of the ship (compared to our only other cruise) was good and it rarely felt too crowded. The 2-week itinerary and port schedule was perfect for what we wanted and we enjoyed having the longer period of time to relax and enjoy the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food at reserved meals was excellent. The ambiance and service was satisfactory, although not quite as good as past experiences. The buffet food tasted good and had a reasonable variety, but the hours were very limited and it was too crowded for our taste. We did enjoy quick dining options in the pool area, including special offerings such as clam chowder (quick snacks). We definitely like having the opportunity to order food in our room (we ate breakfast most mornings in our room). We would not choose to pre-purchase the drink cards again and would instead just pay as we go.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Overall we enjoyed the entertainment on the ship, especially karaoke and open mic night at the piano bar. We enjoyed all the main shows in the theater but they weren't as good as our previous cruise. The variety of music offered in the various bars was good and the entertainers were very personable.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The ship staff was helpful and friendly. We actually liked the fact that they didn't constantly "fawn over us" as experienced on a previous criuse, and we prefer the set service fees on our cruise bill instead of all the tip envelopes used on a previous cruise. The English-speaking abilities could have used a little work in some areas.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
This ship was much less fancy than the only other one we've been on, but we enjoyed it and felt more at home (and less crowded). Having a cabin on the walkaround deck level was perfect.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable and offered good storage and layout. Having a tub was a real plus. TV offerings were good and the location on the walkaround deck near an outer door was excellent.

Ports of call

Homer, Alaska

3 out of 5
We enjoyed visiting the spit but time was limited so we didn't go into the town itself.

Kodiak, Alaska

3 out of 5
We enjoyed some fresh fish and seafood, and the National Park office, but time was limited so we didn't get to see too much

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
We'd been here before, but enjoyed it again. The weather was terrible so our fly-out fishing trip was canceled :(
Don't Miss: Float plane or helicopter trips to the ice fields and glaciers

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We'd been there before but enjoyed visiting again.
Don't Miss: Creek Street and the Soaring Eagle Jewelry Store

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
This is one of our favorite spots, although the cruise didn't leave much time to see it. We had already spent several days there before the cruise and LOVED it. Great food and harbor area to explore.
Don't Miss: Butchart Gardens and Empress High Tea

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
Enjoyed seeing this new port and it's history.
Don't Miss: National park trails

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We'd been there before but enjoyed visiting again.
Don't Miss: White Pass Railway and The Loom Store

Pros: The itinerary was perfect and we enjoyed spending time in the spa and thermal suite. The ship never felt too crowded (except at buffet meals) and we enjoyed a variety of entertainment.

Cons: We didn't care for the buffet meals but the food at reserved meals was excellent
