A great itinerary on a great ship, but a disappointing cruise.

Review summary

The Allure, like all Oasis Class Ships is a beautiful ship and the ports were exactly where we wanted to go. The major disappointment was for most guests was the impact of the large group of guests who required specific elements in order to travel on a cruise ship. We are fairly certain it impacted the RCCL Staff more than it did the guests, however all people on the cruise were impacted. We wish RCCL would have notified all guests that this group would be cruising so people could prepare for and not be surprised by the specific requirements of the large group. We are still Loyal to Royal and have booked 2 more cruises with Royal and will continue to do so as we believe they are the best in the business and make accommodations for all guests.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was the fastest boarding process we have ever been through! The new Terminal in Miami is awesome. With the new facial recognition system and dedicated lines to review your documents is and was a quick, simple process. There are plenty of bins to place your "carry on" items and the screening is set up to handle the large number of guests passing through. Well done Royal!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
As always, Royal Caribbean does not disappoint when it comes to dining and drink options. From the MDR to the Specialty Restaurants, you can virtually get anything you want or desire! The Windjammer continues to be a "Fan Favorite" for many as the selections are varied and change regularly. On this particular sailing, there was a large guest population that required Kosher meals and followed strict religious beliefs during the cruise. It became quite a disruption to other guests who where impacted by such a large group.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The Flowrider is always a great experience as is Zip Lining! Miniature Golf is a fun way to spend some time on sea days and if you really are adventurous a climb up the rock wall can be a great way to get some exercise that you don't always get! Not to mention the great view from the top!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Again as always, great shows! The comedians were top notch and delivered strong performances for both the adult and family friendly shows. The Dreamworks Parade and other shows on the Promenade are entertaining and well done.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our stateroom was always cleaned and prepared for us, however we never saw our room steward was disappointing. We only had 1 towel animal made for us and with no interaction it is difficult to say they were attentive to us. This is a rare occurrence for us as on all our previous cruises we have had a very attentive steward!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We have sailed on Oasis class ships before and we love the themed neighborhoods and layout of the ship. We enjoy the Inside, Boardwalk Cabins on Deck 10, which provide us a Balcony Room to people watch, view the Aqua Theater and see the ocean too!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
As noted, we enjoy the Boardwalk Balcony Rooms that provide all the views we like! When we a ready to call it a day, we simple close the balcony door and the room becomes quite and restful and then start the next morning with room service and great overall view again!

Ship tip

Book all your activities, shows and Shore Excursions prior to sailing. It will save you time and money!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
We did not do any excursions only toured some areas of Miami on our own.

Nassau, Bahamas

We did the Segway Tour on Blue Lagoon Island and it was a great. We wished we had more area to explore and experience the Segways. We were able to see a shark in captivity at one of the stops.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We have been to Cozumel many times and we did a non RCCL sponsored excursion. We did a Dune Buggy excursion where we drove a dune buggy around the island and toured some Mayan Ruins where we experienced the old world culture and food from the local residents.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

2 out of 5
We were very disappointed with the excursion we did at this port. We planned an excursion to a private resort, through RCCL. The resort overbooked and the same group that was on the Allure completely overwhelmed the resort. It was no fault of RCCL however it did negatively impact the other guests who booked this excursion. Many guests requested refunds or some other compensation for the disappointing experience of this resort excursion. This is the first bad experience we have had with a RCCL booked Shore Excursion and in our opinion, they handled it very well for us.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
We did the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins Excursion while in Costa Maya and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It was a bus ride and walking tour of the ruins. Our guide was very knowledgeable and experienced in the native history and culture which made the trip. We were able to pace ourselves yet hear his comments easily. At one point during the tour a monkey dropped from the tress and gave us all a show! If you have any interest in seeing the Mayan Ruins, book it and don't miss this excursion!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
The disembarkation process in Miami is much improved over other port systems. It is quick, simple and easy process in a large open facility.Again well done Royal!
