Allure of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: May 21, 2017

Ship: Allure of the Seas

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The cabin, entertainment, service (except in the dining room and specialty restaurants) were all excellent.  The food was unexceptional.  For the most part it looked better than it tasted.  I like the ship and will go on it again (this was our second time), so we knew what we were getting.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food is never hot when it gets to the table. The dining staff is worked so hard that the service is about like a nice diner. In Chops the food and service were the same, except the waiter and assistant were not busy but were still not attentive.

I thought main dining was good on Allure.. I paid enough to get on that ship I wasn't giving those fancy restaurants any more of my money

Main dining room food is certainly not what it was 10 to 20 years ago but remember 10 to 20 years ago they weren't trying to feed 4000 - 6000 people.  I'm actually amazed at people who think the main dining room food will compete with a restaurant that prepares each serving for each individual, that is not a realistic expectation on a value cruise on a large ship. In addition to keeping the price down and having so many people to feed, the standards for cleanliness in food preparation areas on the ship are exhaustive which I am perfectly happy to live with. Having said that I do expect Chops to be competitive with a decent Steakhouse on shore and so far on every ship we've been on it has been competitive in quality and service and actually a price bargain compared to similar quality onshore restaurants.

Food on all these cruise ships has gone down the quality is not there anymore I think it is to keep the price down so people can still afford to go and they have there full ships

chops was amazing! our waiter was fantastic and we ordered everything he suggested. as for the mdr we were very unimpressed, food was dry and bland and a lot of the time overcooked. We ate at the buffet one time and really didn't enjoy it.

And last but not least, I appreciate the feedback regarding 150 Central Park. We have reservations for Friday, I believe.

Waiting to be seated for 10 minutes wasn't a problem. Waiting to be acknowledged for 10 minutes was a problem. What upsets one person won't necessarily create an issue for someone else. I shared my experience, my views and most importantly ... my opinion. No need to diminish it.

What might be good for one persons may not be good for someone else, food reviews shouldn't be taken as the see all be all, service on the other carries more wait, but I wouldn't lose my hair for a 10 min wait.

150 Central Park use to be MUCH better than it is now. We went this last time in 2016 for the second time and had a horrible experience which was totally different than the first time in 2013.

We ate at 150 Central Park and I was underwhelmed with the food and the service. I have dined at specialty restaurants on Celebrity, Carnival, Princess and Norwegian and Allure was my worst experience. They need a better menu and the wait staff needs better training.

Waiting 10 mins isn't the end of the world come on now 👍🏻 but can't wait to try chops

We tried Giovanni's table and didn't like anything other than the linguine. This our first time cruising in 10 years. It's our fourth with Royal Caribbean and though we are only into Day 2, I've been fairly disappointed with the food quality. And I agree with the original poster, the service in the speciality restaurants has been "questionable". Today we ate at Chops. We had to wait 10 minutes before the hostess noticed us. The restaurant wasn't anywhere near capacity and there were several servers. 🤷🏽‍♀️ The food quality was better at Chops and I would definitely go again. My husband had the steak salad and I had salmon and asparagus.
