Too bad the food isn't better

Review summary
The cabin, entertainment, service (except in the dining room and specialty restaurants) were all excellent. The food was unexceptional. For the most part it looked better than it tasted. I like the ship and will go on it again (this was our second time), so we knew what we were getting.

Main dining room food is certainly not what it was 10 to 20 years ago but remember 10 to 20 years ago they weren't trying to feed 4000 - 6000 people. I'm actually amazed at people who think the main dining room food will compete with a restaurant that prepares each serving for each individual, that is not a realistic expectation on a value cruise on a large ship. In addition to keeping the price down and having so many people to feed, the standards for cleanliness in food preparation areas on the ship are exhaustive which I am perfectly happy to live with. Having said that I do expect Chops to be competitive with a decent Steakhouse on shore and so far on every ship we've been on it has been competitive in quality and service and actually a price bargain compared to similar quality onshore restaurants.
