Overall, like most other reviews I have read, most people say that they were slightly disappointed with the lack of port visits (1 and 1 half out of 4) which of course they could not control the weather.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
This was the best port experience we have had. It was super easy to drop off bags and park versus other cruise ship areas that are super chaotic and you have no idea of where to go.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food and drinks were good. We did not eat at any of the restaurants as we did not need to. There was a lack of choices though which why I gave it a 4 rating.
Main dining opened at 5pm and closed at 5:15 so you had to run at times to get in. The buffet (Windjammer) opened at 7 am and closed at 9 am and literally the gate comes down at 9.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Due to rough weather most of the time during our cruise the water in the pools would slosh pretty violently and splash the seat near them.
The Adventure of the Seas did have a tube ride called the Perfect Storm and a Wave rider. It also had a little mini golf and table tennis area and a rock climbing wall. However, there seemed to be a lot of children on Fall break perhaps. And so these options were usually full of kids.
The fitness center was nice and had equipment except there was very little supervision and some people got carried away with weight lifting and slamming the weight down at times.
The Ice rink was fun again lots of kids so as an adult you felt silly out there with the kids and the parents watching you.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The shows were good and the comedians were funny but the adult shows were way to late for us to get back too at 11:30 at night.
The Ice show was fun and we were amazed that they can have such a thing on a cruise ship.
Children's Programs
Did not bring any kids and yet there were a bunch of them on this cruise
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The dining and room service crew did really great and keeping things orderly and clean and all were super friendly. There were times that some of the female dining staff would seem like they were crying because their leaders were being harsh. We felt bad for them.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Ship was very clean and the stores always had things on sale. I personally always get t-shirts and there were plenty to choose from.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The bed were hard and the steward tried to soften it up a little using an extra duvet on top of the mattresses but after a while it was still hard on the back.
We tipped the steward for trying to make things nicer.
Ship tip
From what we understand it is going into drydock for repairs and you could tell that the ship needed some things fixed.
Aruba was beautiful but the excursion for the beach hop and snorkel was unprepared. The first beach (Arashi) had chairs but charged $20 a chair to use. And there was not enough for the number of guests visiting the beach
Cabo Rojo was nice but was not ready for a ship load of people, it got hectic real quick. Plus that day it was super hot and not enough shade for older folks. The shops did not take credit cards and the restaurants were not prepared for 1,000 people.
Apparently some of the excursions did not make it to their destinations due to roads under construction and the President for Tourism was out visiting some of the tour buses. One guest said that an open air bus went down a dirt road and tree branches were slapping people on the inside of the bus.
TS Oscar was starting to form and the wind and swells were too strong for our safety. The Icon of the Seas turned around behind us while we were moored to the pier but no one got off. The waves were crashing over the pier.
no issues getting off the ship, we had purchased the key package and were able to disembark when they said we could leave with the folks who had self-assisted luggage carry.
