Ship: Adventure of the Seas

Traveled as: Large Group

Review summary

Overall I enjoyed this 8 day cruise. It was 4 ports and 3 sea days. Of course the day you set sail is included. This was the perfect amount of both port and sea days. I think 8 is the sweet spot. I honestly can't say I would change anything about this cruise. I just look forward to my next one.

Embarkation

All 24 of us had no hiccups getting on the ship. There was a line around 11:30/12:00 but it was smooth and easy. Just have your cruise documents ready. Also, be prepared to get your fun photo 📸 taken once you get through the embarkation process 😀.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
For the most part I enjoyed the food. There may have been a couple things in the Main Dining Room that wasn't my fav but overall the Main Dining Room was good. I always found something good to eat in the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch. There may have been some repeats but that didn't bother me. Sorry but the pizza was good. I ate it every single day in the evening 😂😂. And the desserts were so good but that's my weakness 😋. Didn't eat Johnny Rocket's. I kind of forgot to 😄. I was eating everything else. There is a new ice cream place near the Royal Promenade. No more Ben and Jerry's. I had ice cream twice and it was good. I only drink wine so I can't comment on alcoholic drinks but the mocktails were good 😋.

Onboard Activities

I did the miniature golf and that was fine. The hot tub and pools were great. I also got a full body massage and that was worth it. It was a little expensive after that service fee 😅 but it was still worth it. They threw in the hot stones and I really enjoyed that.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I tried to take advantage of going to as many shows as I could with the time they were available. I can't give specifics but I will say I preferred the shows in the Lyric Theater the most. It's larger so it's easier to get a seat. The shows in the Lyric theater were a mix of comedy, singing, dancing 💃. The other venues had great game shows, etc. I can't say I disliked anything. The bands that played in the Royal Promenade were also really good. I also enjoyed all of the Royal Promenade parties like the 70's one. They had a few.

Service and Staff

Everyone on the ship, dining room, windjammer, room steward etc were always pleasant and helpful.

Ship Quality

I always seen staff cleaning different parts of the ship. Yes the ship is over 20 years old but the ship has been well maintained in my opinion. Our room was clean. The hallways were clean. The ship itself was great. Okay so maybe the balcony has some rust but the balconies are out in the elements so I can see why that would be. This didn't bother me though.

Cabin / Stateroom

I have no complaints about our cabin. It was clean. I did bring a travel size lysol spray and wipes just because I wanted to sanitize some but I didn't need to. We had a balcony cabin. There was plenty of space for 2 people for clothes, toiletries, etc.

Ship tip

Bring sea sickness patches/pills if you are prone to getting sea sick. The ship rocked some most of the cruise but it never bothered me thankfully. Get to the shows at least a half hour before show time so you can get a seat. You cannot prebook shows on this ship. Just show up. Bring a sweater or jacket on the ship in case you get cold.

Ports of call

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

There really is only shopping and eating at this port. You have to get a taxi if you want to go to the beach or anything like that.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Lots of places to shop once you get off the ship. A $7.00 (cash only) round trip quick ferry to the other side for more shopping, food and beach. You can also do an excursion if you choose to.

Port Canaveral, Florida

We stayed at the Days Inn by Wyndham Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral the night before. It was cool for one night. They had breakfast at the hotel. There was also a shopping mall with a Publix and places to eat across the street. And the beach is also within walking distance.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

I did the lazy river, the pool and some shopping. I enjoyed this port.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

I just did the beach and I ate of course 😄. Food was good.

Disembarkation

No issue here. It was easy getting off once our number was called. Our bags were in the terminal lined up in the appropriate row with our number. Very easy. Once off the ship we were kind of waiting to see how we were getting to the airport. We end up paying $30.00 per person to get a shuttle bus to the airport. So waiting for the shuttle was nerve racking for me because I had no clue when the shuttle was going to show up. My flight wasn't until 3:15 pm 😂 but I don't play when it comes to being late to the airport 😅. But I made it with 3 or 4 hours to spare for TSA and such 😂😂.
