Review summary

The Adventure of the Seas is a nice older ship. We have cruised aboard several times before and will again in the future. We spoke with a few older guests that stated they enjoyed the low guest capacity, the quietness, and general relaxed feel of this current cruise. We spoke with younger and middle aged guests who stated they was bored out of their minds and couldn’t wait to return to Galveston. We personally fell in the middle. During bad weather we was really bored with nothing to do. During the moments the weather was nice, we enjoyed being out on the decks lounging in the sun with the relaxed atmosphere. There will no doubt be some people leaving comments scolding anyone who writes anything negative with a cruise review and that’s fine, it’s my review and not theirs. At this time, I personally believe Royal Caribbean has removed some entertainment offerings for “passenger safety/covid protocols” that doesn’t make sense. A ‘70’s disco was held around the pool one night and that was considered safe but a belly flop competition could not be held due to passenger safety and covid protocols? Same passengers around the same pool? The Love and Marriage game show could not be held in the theater due to passenger safety/covid protocols but we gathered in the theater for all of the headliner acts and production shows and that’s considered safe? We can’t gather for a game of The Quest but we can gather/dance together during a silent disco? Safety and health is important, that’s not the point. The point is what is allowed and what isn’t allowed just doesn’t make sense. In my opinion if you enjoy a decent breakfast, lunch, and dinner then after each maybe returning to your cabin to lay down and nap…. it’s a great time to cruise. If you prefer activities/entertainment with a more lively atmosphere from more passengers than not onboard…. perhaps you should avoid a cruise at this time.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The low passenger capacity made the entire process quick and easy for boarding.

Ship experiences

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
I never once saw the rock climbing walls being available to climb. Not saying there was a time at some point during the cruise they was, just never saw it personally. Most activities was extremely restricted due to Royal Caribbean’s covid protocols. The CDC conditional sail orders have ended according to travel bloggers and travel planners I have been in contact with however R.C was still very much so keeping things restricted.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The ice show, headlining acts from the comedian and magician, and crew productions at night was good. This was the extent for entertainment. Constant trivia being carried out in the various lounges is considered the highlight for entertainment all day-every day of the cruise at this time. Considering the weather was not the best for cruising with a lot of rain and cold temps, the trivia got boring for a lot of passengers quickly. We spoke with various guests who stated they had sat in their cabins most of the day time due to the lack of activities onboard.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Typical balcony cabin. Not outstanding but lacked nothing. Stateroom was very clean. The mattresses were worn out with multiple mattress pads added on top. I assume this was done due to previous complaints by guests. I can think of no other reason for multiple pads to be added onto the bed without someone asking for them. It’s something we haven’t seen before in any other cabins we have had.

Ship tip

Board knowing the activities and entertainment will be limited. If you enjoy an abundance of trivia, your in luck!

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We have been to Cozumel multiple times and at this time what few excursions that was being offered by Royal Caribbean for our cruise, we had already done. We walked around the port then returned to ship.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
We was the only ship in port and it was great!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was quick and easy. It took longer to walk down the gangway than it did to get through customs. If covid has done anything good for cruising it’s muster drills and disembarkation!

Thanks for your review...sailing on this ship in March.

Perhaps low staffing is contributing to not as many activities.

April 2022 will be my 4th time in the Adventure. I do enjoy the size of the ship. Thank you for the review.

Appreciate your feedback. Interesting take on the attitudes about the lower occupancy by age group. Understand the confusion of conflicting gatherings.

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us. Maybe an lack activities is a mix between cruise and covid. I like the honesty presented in your review.

I agree that RC seems to be using covid as an excuse to limit activities that they just don't want to include. We saw this in October, before Omicron. We won't be cruising until the situation improves. We don't expect "normal," just better.
