Review summary

Just what our family needed - a great spring break trip. Weather was perfect, ship was just the right size. Don't overlook this ship, she's a lovely ship with plenty to offer!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We stayed in a suite, so the boarding process was very efficient. We arrived at the terminal at approximately 10:00am and was on the ship in less than 10 minutes. The RCL representative that checked us in was new, so she accidentially added my photo to my daughter's ID. That created a problem when we initially boarded, but it was easily corrected by the security staff.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Chops was excellent (both food and service) 5 stars Giovanni's Table was excellent (both food and service, special shout-out to Freddy who was fantastic) 5 stars Windjammer was crazy busy all the time, but the staff managed to clear tables quickly and the food was good, for mass production. Cruisers were rude and acted like they were never going to eat again (1st world problem). 4 stars Main Dining Room was very slow, food was marginal, often times over cooked and dried out. 3 stars (being generous).

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Sports activies were fun and there was always something to do for our teenager. Flowrider, slides and volleyball court were a big hit. Ice skating rink was a fiasco - we waited 20 minutes to get registered and decided to walk away, it was only a 45 minutes open skate. Never again!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows we saw were ok. Muscians by the pool were great.

Children's Programs

Twelve year old daughter didn't participate.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward, Putu, was fantastic. Freddy, our waiter in Giovanni's was great too. Suite louge concierge and personnel were the best!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship is older, but recently upgraded. The size is perfect for our family, not a mega ship, but not too small. My only complaint is the casino is in the middle and you have to go through the area to reach the theater. It smells horrific, very stale and smoke filled.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The grande suite was lovely. More storage than any family could use. The bathroom was the biggest I've ever seen at sea. Bed was comfortable. Our daughter even loved the sleeper sofa. Balcony was heaven - two chairs, two tables and a lounger.

Ship tip

Consider getting a grande suite - the perks are well worth the investment!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5
Not visually appealing. The port area is very industrial and areas around the terminals are the same.

Falmouth, Jamaica Did not visit port

Didn't feel it was safe enough to leave the ship.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We did a RCCL excursion - catamaran snorkel, very expensive for the amount of time we had at the sites. Beautiful water, great snorkeling, clean, safe - loved every second we were there. It had been almost 15 years since our last visit. We won't wait that long again.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
We did Maya Chan excursion on our own - not for our family, beach was covered in rotting seaweed and the stench was unbearable. We returned to the ship early. The shopping area around the pier was very crowded and intentially difficult to navigate.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We loved our Fury catamaran snorkel and beach break. Fantastic day in/out of the beautiful waters around Cozumel. We felt very safe and the catamaran staff was very service-minded. Highly recommend.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Suite guests received priority disembarkation, which made the process quick and painless.
