Review summary

Service in the cruise industry is in a general decline. specifically since they started the prepay gratuities. No incentive to go above and beyond. Overall this is a good cruise with lots to do on board. Just which the cruise lines would get back to the service of the old days.

Embarkation

Very quick process to get onboard.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room food was good. Service was great from our waiter. Menu was limited to some extent. Windjammer breakfast is good, Lunch had some variety.

Portofino

2 out of 5

Now called Giovanni. Ordered a Filet covered in a brown gravey which is a cardinal sin in my book. If a fillet needs a sauce for flavor you should not be making steaks. Went to Murder Mystery dinner and was not impressed.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Ship just came out of dry dock so I love the new additions of the flow rider, slides, climbing wall...etc. They did miss painting under the balcony room railings.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Dancers were good and put on a pretty good show. We had two comedians and a hypnotist. Two were great the last comedian needs a new line of work.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Waiter was top notch. Asst waiter was new and you could tell. Room steward was the worst we have ever had. Didn't clean the room one night and left the towel monkey hanging for 3 days. There was very little passion for doing the job. The bands in the lounges looked like zombies but sounded good. Out of the eight cruises I have taken this one is in the number 4 slot mainly due to service. Celebrity Century rates first and Carnival last in terms of service. Staff was friendly and if you would ask for something they would get it. But to reach my number one spot for service you have to go above and beyond expectations.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a promenade cabin. it was quiet and in mid ship which reduces wave rolling. Nice bay window with a small couch to people watch. Don't really spend much time in the cabin anyway.

Ship tip

Don't miss the Quest and love and marriage game shows. St. Johns has an awesome buggy adventure shore excision. St. Kitts is horrible. The beach at St Maartin is beautiful but to many people wanting to massage your feet. St Lucia is a beautiful Island to tour. Because the bathroom is so small stop at Walmart and pickup a shoe organizer ($7) to hang on the door to put all of your toiletries in. I also take a magnet to stick all the tickets on the wall so they don't get lost in all the stuff on the desk. Split your packing put half of your stuff and half of your spouses stuff in each suitcase so if one gets lost you have something to wear. Only two outlets in each cabin and surge strips will be confiscated so I take a laptop plug it in and then plug the phones into the laptop. If you plan on using them to listen to music. There is a refrigerator in the cabin if you want to bring the two bottles of wine on board they allow. There is also a small hair dryer so it takes a while to dry your hair.

Disembarkation

Got off the ship quick but no regard for when your flight leaves so we were sent to airport 5 hours before flight left. Problem you can't even check luggage until 4 hours before the flight so you are stuck sitting on the floor of the airport waiting.

I feel sorry for the towel monkey

I have started preparing a little card a note with some cash and leave first say for cabin steward. I usually have a couple of requests like extra pillows, keep and ice bucket full in cabin etc. Seems to spark a little more attention to detail during stay

I agree. Service was better before prepayed gratuity.
