Review summary

The ship was okay, the food was mediocre, the entertainment was okay and most of the ports were good. Service on the ship was very good. The layout of the ship is a mess. Overall - satisfactory but not great.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I arrived early and was boarded in minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food was ho-hum, pretty standard. Nothing in particular wrong with it - but nothing great either. Other cruise lines have had MUCH better food. Better choices, better quality. I had many dishes that arrived at my table lukewarm at best.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I participated in rock climbing, trivia and other cruise staff activities. They were okay - again, nothing fantastic. Just acceptable.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Stages shows and guest entertainers were okay. Again, nothing spectacular. Other cruise lines have MUCH better entertainment.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff was very attentive and helpful. Waiter Royal and assistant Rosson were EXCELLENT

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The ship has unexplained nooks and crannies. You can't go from one end to the other on Deck 2 or 3 because of the ice rink. Many strange things about the ship's layout. It made it awkward and unpleasant compared with other ships I have sailed on

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was small (as expected) but complete and very nice. Not enough hangers, but that is minor. Cabin steward Gar was FANTASTIC!

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

1 out of 5
Not much operating there yet so pretty much a waste.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

3 out of 5
It was okay. Shore excursions were very limited.

St. John's, Antigua

3 out of 5
Again, okay. Not much to do there.

Fort-De-France, Martinique

4 out of 5
This was surprisingly nice. I was glad to have been here instead of St. Maarten, which I have visited many times before.

Castries, St. Lucia

4 out of 5
Also a very nice port. It has come a long way since I was there 20 years ago!

Bridgetown, Barbados

4 out of 5
Another port that has come a long way since my last visit two decades ago.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I did the self check out and was the fifth person off the ship. This is a great idea! Keep it going!

The layout is a mess?? Can you please explain? I find that Royal has some of the best and easiest layouts.
