Review summary

Royal Caribbean should have cancelled this cruise. There was significant uncertainty of whether the cruise would happen at all due to the hurricanes. They could have then used the ship to help the people of St Marteen and Barbuda without impacting our vacation.

From airport to being on the ship in one hour

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Johnny rockets is the best deal on the boat. $6/person which includes soda and a dessert.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Casino, Bingo, Workout facilities, pools are all great. On last at sea day is was tough to find a seat by the pool.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Lady who sang Adele and the comics were great otherwise it felt more like a high school musical.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
All friendly and attentive

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Balcony was very small but room was roomy.

Ship tip

Do not purchase the excursions via Royal. We purchased a 3 hour beach package and only got one hour on the beach and we were located on the second row, not beach front. In Bonaire, there is a vendor that rents souped up golf carts which looked fun. Not sure of the cost.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Kralendijk, Bonaire

Oranjestad, Aruba

Should have had a taxi take us to the beach instead of booking excursion via Royal.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

This is a tough one. We delivered humanitarian supplies and embarked 300 people who were trying to get off the island after the hurricane . I always want to help another human being when I can but it took a day out of our vacation and gave us another sea day basically. We were supposed to have an overnight in Aruba which was changed due to this diversion and this was disappointing. The folks who joined the ship in St Marteen were very appreciative and had very scary stories of the hurricane itself and then the stress of no water, food, and defending themselves from looters.

I have a cruise on October 14th that was supposed to stop in St Thomas. They have changed that port. I was really hoping to stop there and assist anyway we can. These poor people have lost everything. I really that think would be the most amazing stop at a port. And for people that don't want to get off, they could stay on the ship and enjoy it for the day. So far I have not heard if my hotel is up and running or not. Maybe too far out because they are hoping to have everything running. I am staying right at the port and I am not sure how bad that got hurt. I see that a ship is in port there today. I am just waiting to see if anything is changed on my cruise. If I have to change flights or cancel flights , I think my insurance will cover it. I always buy the travel insurance.

I have a cruise next week and both my hotels in Puerto Rico (both resorts) canceled my reservations and said they're closed until further notice. There's no power on the island to see if I can stay at any other hotels and now my travel agent is telling me to rebook my airline to fly in and out the same same day. I'm not comfortable taking a chance that my flight will get delayed or lose my luggage. I wish they would just cancel this cruise. The airports not even open. This letting people know a day and a half in advance is poor customer service.

If they'd have cancelled i imagine you'd be on here complaining about that also.

And others have complained when Carnival DID cancel a cruise to deliver relief supplies to the islands. Poor Carnival! Trying to do the right thing. Complaints of you do, complaints if you do not.
