Review summary

I saved the best for last!!! Charging for room service and breakfast delivered to the room now. $7.95??? Are you kidding. I have so much to say about this I don't know where to begin. That is the biggest rip off on the seven seas! That was always awesome to get food anytime and not be charged for it!! Who's ever bird brain idea this was has no idea what they have done. Royal Caribbean in my eyes has now been classified as A "Nickel and Dime" Cruise line!!! You guys better get with it, really. You need the $7.95 that bad Royal Caribbean!!! So Petty after what we spend on these cruises. Ive said enough, you can get the rest of my overall analysis from what I previously posted. Still A loyal Royal Caribbean cruiser and fan, but.....I don't know. Might be swayed to try something else. We have another cruise booked for next summer, but right now it's not locked in stone.

Embarkation

We got to the pier early(8:30am), and though we did not mind waiting, there seemed to be no sense of order. There was nobody there at the pier from Royal caribbean to answer any questions about where and when? There were no accommodations at all, just had to wait outside in the heat for two and A half hours. We won't be sailing from Puerto Rico anymore. We went the previous year and it was the same thing. Also we always take our now 16 year old Granddaughter with us, 18 cruises to be exact, and about 8 years ago we went on the Granduer of the Seas out of San Juan on A repositioning cruise. We almost missed the ship, and I mean by minutes, because we had every form of ID for my Granddaughter except for birth certificate. We had our custody papers, letter of consent from the parents, and social security card. Well how is it now the the last two cruises from Puerto rico, last summer and this summer, they asked for no documentation what so ever??? She could of been anybody, because she does not have the same last name??? I can remember what we went through 8 years ago to get on the ship! calling, faxing, emailing!!! And now they let her onboard with us with no identity check at all!!! Nice security, what A joke!!!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in general was very good! Jerome and Gene our table waiter and helper(my time table 142) were excellent!!! What happened to the ice tea in the windjammer? Just water and lemonade? and no fresh lemons.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Enjoyed the Solarium pool. Fitness center was good. Some machines showing some age. Mini golf was fun. To old to wave ride, and Granddaughter was chicken! Water tubes look fun, but did not try. Casino is A rip off as usual. Your chances of winning anything on A royal caribbean ship is slim to none. Also, could the people working in the Casino have A little personality! There like prison guards. Royal promenade was what expected. Got A couple of good deals. Diamond club was very nice! Great service! Upper tier formal was very nice, but could they recognize some of the people in the crowd with 30 or 40 cruises instead of 300 or 400? How about introducing some of the new crown and anchor members, make them feel important. Some of these old folks live on these ships, we know there going to be there every week. I don't know, seems like Royal Caribbean does A dis-service to the not-so-wealthy younger members who are dedicated to the brand, who just get A free 8x10 picture and 10% of something with there logo on it. Come on get with it! family's like mine are your bread and butter.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment(theatre) was good! Ice show very good!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Jerome and Gene our table waiter and helper were superb!!! Cant say enough about these two guys! Room stewart was Average at best. Room was orderly, but most days floors were un-vacuumed and dirty.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship looked good. Royal I must say seems to always do A nice job with cleanliness! 3000 clients A week! Thats A lot of people! Ship showed its age with some bumps and bruises, but thats to be expected. Overall we love the voyager class! Not to big, not to small. They should revert A little bit, and make A fresh new one!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Really liked it! Very roomy! Carpets could be cleaned.

Ship tip

I would recommend the ship, just not out of Puerto Rico. Never out of Puerto Rico. To bad Celebrity doesn't own it, or have A similar design ship. Because lets face it, they do A much better job! Sorry RC!

Ports of call

Kralendijk, Bonaire

Awesome!!!

Willemstad, Curacao

Very nice! Locals get A bad rap I think. I was always told there unfriendly and rude, but I don't see it. Good shopping. I recommend A shore excursion though, then shopping. Floating bridge is A must. Makes the whole port I think! Very quirky!

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
It's Aruba!!! What else can you say! Awesome as always!!! BEST BEACHES!!!

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
Always A great port! Weather could of been better. In the past we have done just about every shore excursion. Water taxi is A bargain and fun!

Disembarkation

Smooth as silk!! This time!!! It's always A crap shoot!

Thanks for sharing.

Did not realize they charge now. Obviously I'd rather it were free, but wouldn't make a difference in choosing RC.

Wow, you would actually go to a different company because of a room service charge? They treat you so nicely. Just go and get your breakfast and bring it back to your room. You can eat in the Windjammer, the dining room, lots of places. You will get a room service fee in any hotel you go to. We have sailed with Royal 8 times. We have always been treated so well, definitely pampered. I'd much rather pay a service charge for room service ( which includes the tip). Hmmmm.....go on a ship that dies at sea, no food or functioning toilets vs one that charges a room service charge???

Thanks for the heads up! Might choose a different liner.

I had no idea there was a coffee maker. thanks.

twhite1    7 years ago

Why would you have coffee delivered when there is a coffee maker in your room?

snowbirdcruzer    7 years ago

the basic continental items are still free. you'd have to look at RCCL for specifics

mslola65988644    7 years ago

So if you just want coffee delivered you have to pay for it?

javier5942    7 years ago

The problem is that you have that before for free and the industry aré in better standing now than before it sucks 👍🏻

It's a delivery charge, not per item. If you're only getting food delivery once or twice it's really not that bad. Like mentioned about its something that just started happening. I don't believe it's too much of a charge. You pay less than 8 bucks, and are able to get as much food as you want.

snowbirdcruzer    7 years ago

yeah, it's been publicized for months, and is also lusted on menu

fatrabt467, this is a new policy, they charge for it now.

fatrabt467    7 years ago

they usually only charge for very late night to early am hours. Is that when you ordered?

rickthemc    7 years ago

gina712    7 years ago

hate to break it to you but they aren't the only cruise line that charges for room service.
