"A memorable cruise" by EstherC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

I thought the ship was very well maintained although there were some areas which could be cleaned or replaced. The staff were very professional and pleasant.

Don't waste your money by EmilyO

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Zaandam / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The cruise was from San Diego to Vancouver, Canada. If I had known this was the tail end of the Mexican cruise and that the ship would be leaving for Hawaii after Vancouver, I would have never had booked the trip. This wasn't a cruise, but a fill in. Don't bother booking this trip. Our room didn't get any towel animals - or even a breakfast menu on one night. There were very few activities after 5 p.m., almost as if the ship had a curfew. I was excited when I found out there were cooking classes, but dissapointed when I found out they were on the Hawaii cruise (why they even advertised these classes was confusing). I ordered the "anniversary" package which was a bouquet of flowers and a photo. The bouquet that was delivered to our room looked half dead and I thought that perhaps the previous residence had left it behind. No mention of our anniversary. The crew seemed really ticked off about something and were rude and non hospitable.

a very relaxing cruise by LuM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Loved my balcony room. Great room stewards. Restaurant server's= some were nice, worked hard to please and competent. other server's and attendants were sober, robotic hard to communicate with. The ship's decor was pleasing. Seat's in the place the show's were, were uncomfortable. The cruise director was perfectly 'corny' as he should be..Loved the many choices of Jacuzzis.

A good vacation by LindaM10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

A very lovely ship. Food was excellent and we didn't even try the specialty restaurants. We personally like being seated with the same people each night and don't care so much for the "freestyle" cruising, but it worked well for us on this cruise as we brought our handicapped son along, and keeping a schedule is harder with him. We would prefer less specialty restaurants and more amenities such as a theater, or an indoor pool for general use. Entertainment was good with good variety around the ship. Something for everyone. Most of the staff was very nice although I did encounter one bartender that was a bit rude. I was really surprised. Our balcony room was a bit small for three people; we couldn't get out the balcony door when the sofa bed was open, and closet space was tight. The shelves inside the closet were very hard to access. There were days when our room was still not made up at 1:00 PM even after we had been out of it for several hours. Overall we had a good time but have been happier with some other ships.

Never with Holland America Again by TaraG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

GOOD: 1) The staff was very pleasant and courteous 2) The food was good. 3) The alcohol was good and reasonably priced *************** BAD: 1) Minimal help for first time cruisers (where to eat, mostly) 2) Couldn't get reservation for the nice restaurant (the first thing we did when we boarded) 3) Movies are free but have to wait 45 minutes and they still didn't come, and not available on last night because they were "doing their accounting" (If they're free than how does it affect the accounting). 4) Room wasn't cleaned well. 5) Entertainment in the "Piano Lounge" on the agenda for the day. No "Piano Lounge" on the maps, come to find out it's in the "Amstel Cafe." 6) Lounge show was funny - because it was SO BAD, not because it was a comedy, which it wasn't. ********************UGLY: 1) The room stunk, even after we asked them to change out the sheets, pads and pillows. 2) We were on a 4 night cruise, boarding evening on Monday and disembarking early Friday morning. We had to reset our key cards no less than 4 times to get into our room. Every time we were at the front desk someone else was resetting theirs as well. 3) The staff stole my $50 iPhone charger while I was in port. Thank goodness I put my passport in the safe! I would never recommend Holland America to ANYONE.

Very Windy Cruise by DonnaC10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The ship was very well kept. The room was exceptional. We took a cruise in October in the opposite direction and received better cleaning service from our room cleaning staff even though we tipped twice daily. The concierge, Arian, was very efficient and made up for the cleaning staff.

The Cruise Test by CherylR9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We have always traveled on the Holland America cruiseline; however, I wanted to see how "other" cruiselines rated in comparison to HA. Well, I will tell you the Mariner of the Seas is an absolutely beautiful ship and there is not one thing I can say I did not like or had trouble with. The rooms, although smaller in size, were well designed and we had no trouble in them. The food was very good and the staff was excellent. I have to say I really thought I probably would be disappointed about some things on a different line from what I was accustomed to, but I'm happy to say I would travel Royal Car. again in a minute.

Good times on Elation! by DebraB9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

For the value it was a great vacation. Great food, not too crowed, friendly staff, clean facilities throughout. Everything I would have expected. The ship was older and the food isn't a 5 star restaurant but if you want a good time with lots of activities then this is for you.

Relaxing and joyful by MayC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We were excited to go on the Carnival Splendor as we heard it was only a year or two old. The ship was always clean and tidy. Rooms were well appointed and a good size. Ample sorage and cabinet space. Did not feel cramped in and the oceanview was better than other cruise ships we had sailed before. Public areas were somewhat smaller but amenities were nice. They had a miniature golf course which was fun. Adult serenity area nice, but right below golf area. : | Pools and jacuzzis in multiple different locations. Indoor/outdoor lido area was well thought out with a large movie screen and pool. Felt like you were outdoors with shelter. Lounges were brightly decorated with modern, bold colors. Staff could have been more friendly but always serviced our needs. Food was excellent and quality was very good. More variety in the buffet area would have been nice. Desserts were a little lacking which was unusual. Entertainment sometimes was hit or miss. Think a little more practice could have been done and a little more higher caliber. Kid's programs were a little lacking in hours of activities and overall friendliness. Overall, a good cruise!

beautiful ship, one of the nicest i have seen. I have been on a few different cruise lines and carnival has been my favorite overall. By far the service and easy check-in makes the trip amazing.
