Overall a good cruise! by BrendaT6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of Hawaii / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, we had a great time, there were only a couple of things that could have been better, such as the "hot" food on the buffet was always cold and the flight arrangements were terrible, You have to leave the ship by 10 am and our flight home was not until 9:30 pm, makes a very long day of waiting even if you take a tour on the last day, we still had over six hours of waiting at the airport, so the flight home was terrible, in all almost 30 hrs to take a 10 hr flight. We participated in the "Easy Fly" program and were given the wrong boarding passes and the crew member on the ship was very rude when we expressed our concerns over whether our bags were being sent to the correct place. But overall it was good. Would not travel with NCL America again. Have used other cruise lines that we liked alot more.

Being a first time cruiser, it was awesome. Really clean and luxurious. Felt comfortable and relaxed everywhere on the ship.

Beauty and the Beast by CarolynE2

The crew has a lot to learn about customer service. At th beginning of the cruise the importance of hand washing was made clear. However, at the bar areas they found it appropriate to touch multiple items, them proceed to put garnishes on the drinks without washing there hands. Most days our cabin was nit cleaned before 3pm. We did not have clean towels and washclothes. One evening after making a call and going to the front desk, it was still after 9pm before our room was cleaned. The first evening of formal picture taking had extremely long lines with a very limited number of photographers. There was only one ice cream bar that frequently had long lines. The majority of the staff were very young. They appeared to know very little about greeting people and making the customer feel welcomed. The price for excursions were extremely high. At one point I felt like I could just get off the ship and go home. I was glad when we finally arrived home. Hawaii was beautiful. I would have been better off going without the cruise. I have been on many cruises. This was the worse. The ship was beautiful. I wish I could say as much about the staff.

"A Week in Beautiful Hawaii" by Jaime

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

I got what I expected out of this vacation. I read several reviews and had an idea of what to expect and not expect out of this ship. The ship was not well kept, it appeared dirty. The bedding was obviously not changed between cruises and we got several bug bites, hopefully not bed bugs.

Pride of America is a gem by MiichaelJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Everyone on the ship was great. No matter what we needed we were satisfied promptly and competently. The itinerary was exactly what we wanted - no packing and unpacking and waits at the airport required to see multiple islands in Hawaii. No Customs and Immigration issues at all since this was a totally domestic route.

Cruise the Isands by Terryc1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

According to NCL ship-board staff, the Freestyle approach in the three ships sailing the Hawaiian Islands is an experiment. If so, I believe its working. Unfortunately, we had two terrible experiences. It took the baggage handlers four hours to get our three pieces of luggage to our stateroom. We checked our luggage at the dock at around 2:30; our luggage arrived in our stateroom, one piece at a time, from 6:00 until around 7:00. On a one to ten scale, rate luggage handling a 1. The second poor experience was a stateroom stewardess that in our opinion was either incapable of performing her tasks or she simply did not have the enthusiasm needed to do a good job. She did not touch our stateroom the first day until we went to the customer service desk and complained, and on the last morning when she discovered we were going to breakfast instead of vacating the room, she nearly had a fit. On our one to ten scale, she was at best a 2. The rest of the crew was absolutely fantastic. They were the most courteous we have experienced on a cruise line. The food was outstanding and the freestyle dining was fabulous. The ship was immaculately maintained, the newsletter was informative, and the attitude of nearly every crew member was great. Unfortunately it takes a lot to overcome negative first impressions resulting from very late luggage the first evening, followed by a stewardess that doesn't bother to provide clean towels and etc on the first morning.

A Bit Disappointing by BarbaraR14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

After cruising on thirteen previous ships, we were a bit disappointed in the Pride of Aloha. Much of the ship is worn and the service was less than we have become accustomed to. For example, four nights out of the seven, no one came to turn down our beds or pick up our room. NO candy was left on our pillows and no busboys were on duty in the dining room. It seems that the staff is either short handed or they don't work as hard as the crew on other ships. The ship has no casino and we have been spoiled with duty free shopping that we weren't offered here. There was no midnight buffet and the meals were rather mediocre. We still had a very nice vacation but the small details that make cruising such a pleasurable experience were lacking.

July cruise in Hawaii by JodiR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

We had great service at most of the venues- a couple bar tenders at the pool area weren't so great. Our room maid was wonderful! She worked hard to make things special for us. We wish the cruise line would have allowed us to purchase separate pictures- costs were high and photos not so great. They were stringent about package pricing that included "free" junk like key chains and magnets. Lower prices and would would have bought some.

Worst service ever on a ship by ChuckS2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

Crowded, bland food, staff unwilling to help and uncaring regarding problems such as toilets not flushing, A/C not working. Very little scenic sailing, stayed docked in ports. Mandatory service chg on bill, $15 corking fee. I know it's a very low cost ship, but sanitation and comfort should be required. River boats in China much nicer!

Poor service compared to cruises with foreign workers. Ports of call were excellent. Cabin attendant were the only ones I was impressed with. Please thank Jennifer and Paul Roque for us.

I was a great time! by KeithB9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Hawaii / Destination: Hawaii

Before going I read alot of reviews that were not good, however I was very suprised to find out that they for us anyway, they were not true about The Pride of Hawaii. Staff was very friendly, food was good, and we had a great time! Now my service may have been a little better then most because I had a room better than a standard stateroom, but across the ship it was good.

Pride of America 7/14 to 7/21 by DavidW9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

My wife and I sailed the Pride of America last week and we both enjoyed the appearance of the ship and the itineary. We liked the "Casual Dining" very much. The ship was super clean, the employees were very friendly, and our cabin was great. We had a eight deck balcony cabin and it was worth every dollar we paid for it. What we didn't care for was the entertainment which was very mediocre at best. The entertainment consisted of two comedians during the week and the rest was ship personnel who were, for the most part, high school level quality. We ate one night in the "Little Italy" restuarant and the service was poor and the food wasn't particulary good. I was also disappointed to see that they closed down the only large pool on the last full day of the cruise since that was the closest thing to a day at sea and the best chance for most people to use it.

great travel experience by TerriA2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

my son and I had a wonderful vacation aboard the Pride of America. Everyone was so polite and professional. Our balcony stateroom was small but sufficient with a safe and fridge. Housekeeping was great. The food was good. My son liked eating the breakfast buffet and the food at the Cadillac Diner. The show, "On the Radio" was a real treat as well as the "Crew Show".

A Wonderful Way to See Hawaii by AmandaA3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Excellent vacation! The food and staff was amazing on the ship. We were pleasantly surprised by many aspects of our vacation. Enjoyed the free-style dining immensely, be sure to book early. Our only complaint is that we booked too many excursions, which were good, but kept us busy.

Inconsistent service, great itinerary by GeorgeW10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

While most of the staff was freindly and helpful, several were not. One would be too many. The premium restaraunts were insultingly bad values. The entertainment was second rate. Small, easily addressed (but not) annoyances added up to one big dissappointment. Thank goodness we were in Hawaii!
