Western Med Cruise by stacylworthingt

Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The ship was clean and there was attention given to keeping it that way and to frequent handwashing etc. The room (studio) was adorable and just right for one person without being claustraphobic.

The food was so-so- some of it was terribly commercial and there were very few gluten free choices. I had a hamburger about 97 times because of this. I feel there could be more effort made to have a few more "clean" choices for all types of dietary restrictions. The fresh fruit was usually bad as if was toast before we set sail to begin with.

The part we liked the least was the pool area. I understand wanting to get people in the mood to have a good time but it was so loud most of the time. Too loud for us to be out there and we are only in our 50's. You could not have conversation if you were trying to eat at the outdoor cafe and you could not doze off if you were sitting out there. Others around us - every single time- were complaining about. I called to complain and was told my comment would be forwarded to the Entertainment department. This was not a spring break frat party in the Caribbean - this was a bunch of adults on a European cruise. The music did not need to be screaming loud and pulsating all day long.

I would LOVE an opportunity to put my two cents in on the gift shops. Higher quality items, drug store necessities and more variety would have sold well.

Pleasantly surprised by bigwheel2us997

Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

I have been on 40 cruises in my life.  Prior to this trip only one was on NCL, the Norweigian Wind about 10 years ago from Hawaii for 10 days.  It as by far the worst cruise I've ever been on and I vowed to never go on a NCL cruise again.  Vacation dollars are quite valuable to me and to waste both the money, my time and the experience on a completely terrible trip is a lasting image.

This trip was flawless.  With nearly 5000 passengers on board I never felt cramped, rushed or slighted.  There were no lines ever and the food and entertainment was terrific.  The only restaurant that we found disappointing was Cagney's Steakhouse, worst steak on the trip, poor service and a disappointing experience. Other than this the only thing I would change is to add another sea day.  The pace of this many ports on a seven day cruise is over kill.  The pool area is so nice it's a shame not to be able to se it.

The last thing to discuss is, I am a smoker.  There are way more smokers than places to smoke.  The area on the pool deck didn't have enough space because some people camped out there with the entire families including babies, not allowing others to use the area.  I usually gamble but did not even spend even a single dine on this ship in the casino simply because the smokers were stuck back in the corner and ashtrays were difficult to find.  If the casino wants my money, they will need to earn it.  I did go to the casino in Monte Carlo and unfortunately they keep too much of my cash.  I do have status with several casinos in Vegas.  They work hard to earn my money.

Overall experience by Cruiser38906693

The Cruise was absolutely fantastic. As with many past Celebrity cruises, the overall holiday was first class from the condition and standards of the ship to service from the crew.

First time from Southampton by Cruiser47412113

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Good cruise, the only downside was the weather on the first and last two days. Wrong time of the year from Southampton. First class food and drink, service excellent. Would have liked more time ashore in Gibralter. and Barcelona

The Old girl, still got it..... by philgarrod

Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

It was good to come back to Independence , have been on a lot of ships but, this is still close to my heart is looking a-bit tired but the atmosphere on board is still the same as it was at the beginning of her sea life. The whole cruise was a sheer delight, my wife and I enjoyed all the entertainment and the food on board was a real delight. The itineraries was just what we wanted and was really surprised at Cartgena, that was well worth the trip alone. Can't wait to see Independace after the re-fit.Love

The trip of a lifetime! by iknit

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Harmony of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We were in awe that a ship this size could run so efficiently.  Wait times were significantly shorter than times on other ships we have travelled on.  Ports were very accessible.  Children's activities are contained so you are not overun by boisterous children screeming and running about.  The food quality was consistent in the dinning rooms and specialty restaurants.  Cabins contained ample storage space and temperature controls worked well.  We hope to travel on this ship in the future since the experience exceeded our expectations.

Wonderful experience by CharityChittum

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was our first time on a Mediterranean cruise. We really enjoyed the whole experience. We had a room with a balcony and it was so nice sitting on the balcony  in the evening and seeing the stars. We also had a dining package and were able to enjoy several different specialty restaurants. The ports of call were outstanding. We enjoyed the various tours we were able to participate in.

I would recommend mend this cruise to friends and family.

I was somewhat disappointed by pegasus9000

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

I enjoyed the Mediterranean area and the places I got to visit, Although the ports were so far from any excursion points.  For example, Civiitavechhia is about an hour from port, by train, 1 1/2 hours by bus to get to Rome.  So that takes a lot of time out from the time allowed for being off the ship.  The ship was a newer one but apparently, they cut corners to have more cabins.  The pool were very small and the ship was not as elegant as most I've been on.  And I've been on a lot of Norwegian ships.  They also want to charge extra for so many things, like some of the shows, the entrance to the ice bar, cover charges for the specialty restaurants has really increased (so choose the dining package if you are able), etc.  And if you like to use the casino while cruising, this ship had very little activity - the least I've ever seen.   The solo cabins were nice and sufficient for one person.  And the access to the solo's lounge and snacks was very nice also.  It made it easy to meet other solo travelers so that is one of the best ideas they've had in a while.

First Class Ship - 2nd Class Customer Service! by Cruiser95734498

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Harmony of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Best part of the cruise was the beauty of the ship, and the cabins are beautiful and spacious.  I am a Platinum Crown & Anchor Society and the customer service levels have declined significantly in the following areas:  Dining Room Waiter and Assistant Waiter, Pursers Desk Staff (some, not all), Focus Photography Staff, the wings from room service, Chops Grille Food was not worth the $45 per person charge; it was average (food) and no better than dinner in the main dining room.  The lobster was good though!  I am considering moving to another cruise line because the customer service levels have declined on my last two cruises!

calling at ports that we have not been to .It seems that booking a cruise is a gamble. It seems that a lot of my fellow passengers had a drinks package because they booked at certain time and I seem to have just missed it !!!

navigator cruise by wlraese

Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

we had chosen this cruise most of all for the itinerary.    we did enjoy all the ports we stopped at.    it was an added plus that the cruise itself exceeded expectations.    we have taken many cruises.     this one the food in the main dining room was very good.   the sushi in the izomi restaurant was also very good.  we avoided the windjammer as it is too noisy,   too busy and too hectic.      most days we had room service of something quick at the snack bar on deck 5.    several people in the dining room  just went beyond expectations and made the cruise special

Amazing ship! Wonderful ports! by zpagliere

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Harmony of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We have traveled with RCI many times but this ship has outdone them all! The service was impeccable, the amenities excellent and the ports of call wonderful. The food, surprisingly, we give four stars. Not as varied as in other RCI ships. One problem was the size of the ship limits access to regular ports  where the town's were within walking distance.RCI  provides buses but in some cases at a cost. We only took one RCI excursion and it was good(Pisa &Lucca ) from La Special. The others were pre arranged private tours. Our only regret is not having enough time to enjoy the attractions on the ship. Only one day at sea made it hard to do all the fun stuff ! Most excursions lasted all day ,not wanting to miss anything at ports of call.

First time cruise by Cruiser83538236

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Cocktail Bar and Sun Deck.  Food was good, service excellent, if at times a little over-bearing, but not a major issue.

The ports of call were pretty naff, other than Naples.

Great Cruise but Poor Organisation by Cruiser1263054

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Poesia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The ship was excellent, the itinerary was superb, the staff were mainly OK, but the Organisation was not up to standard.

Cold food in the dining room, a minimum 10-minute wait for a drink, poor quality entertainment.

MSC need to buck their ideas up a bit and get themselves organised, middle management should spend some time on RCI, to see it's done.

too big a ship to cater to everyone by bobsaca579

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Harmony of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was the worst cruise we have ever taken-1 yr ago we signed up for 6 p.m. dining and were told we had anytime dining because of the 5,000 people that boarded b/4 us in Barcelona had that time frame- the list of bad continues---

flight out canceled-arrived in Italy late-shore excursions that were pre-booked -were not recorded and we had to rebook-food not up to standards -asst waiter lost husbands sea pass card- one excursions canceled and our friends were not notified of this-we told them it was canceled -areas of the ship were dirty and floors were sticky-no shows for 2 nites- some shows were not up to RC standards-waste of time--tickets for return flight were canceled by airline -tickets had to be reissued

Wonderful cruise with very interesting itinerary by sally14975241

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Favorite port was La Spezia for the tour of Cinque Terre--absolutely beautiful! Ajaccio Corsica was also a favorite--ease of access from port allowed freedom to explore port at leisure. Port of Villefranche was the most picturesque.

Couldn't fault anything! by Georgejones

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was my 4th cruise, the previous 3 being on RCI Independence of the Seas which I really enjoyed but this was different class. Loved it right from the moment I went aboard. The ship was beautiful, clean with lots of fantastic bars, cafes, etc. All the staff, without fail, from the waiters in the dining room & bars and our cabin steward were friendly, polite and made me feel that nothing was too much trouble. The entertainment was great and even the captain was hilarious!! I would recommend this cruise line and ship to anyone who wants a little bit of sophistication and luxury but with a relaxed and comfortable feel......loved it.

Loved Our Cruise by joelkgoldman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Harmony of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

My wife and I loved our Mediterranean cruise aboard Harmony of the Seas. Our cabin with a balcony on the 10th deck had plenty of room. We were surprised at how much drawer and closet space there was. The bathroom was swell designed and the shower was great. The bed was quite comfortable. Our cabin attendant left us a different "towel sculpture" every evening, which was a fun touch.

The food in the main dining room was quite good but we chose not to eat such a big meal every night. We enjoyed having dinner in Wonderland, which was a unique experience.  The food in the Windjammer Marketplace was just fair. The hamburger and hotdog buns were always stale. The ship was full which meant the Windjammer was jammed at mealtime and that made for a chaotic scramble to find a table.

We expected better shopping on board but that wasn't why we took the cruise. The shows were well done. The crew was friendly and helpful.

We really enjoyed the adults only Solarium on the 15th and 16th decks. Great spaces to enjoy the sun and breeze.

We chose the excursion to Pompeii when we docked at Naples. However, after having a private guide in Rome for two days before we sailed and another private guide in Barcelona, the crowded group tours weren't not as enjoyable. We took a city tour of Palma in Mallorca which was boring compared to Rome, Pompeii and Barcelona. My wife took a vastly overpriced excursion to Aix for a pastry class and a couple of hours of unguided free time when we docked at Marseilles. Skip this excursion. It's not worth the money.

We highly recommend this cruise.
