Trip of a Lifetime to the Holy Land! by Rca11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

This cruise was amazing. Going to the Holy Land was definitely an experience of a lifetime. Venice--Always amazing. We go frequently and love it every time Haifa -- We went to Jerusalem and the Dead Sea area, so we didn't stay in Haifa proper. Kotor - Splendid little town. Highly recommend just walking around, shopping, and getting some coffee. Rhodes -- The highlight of our trip, honestly! This place is awesome! Great food, great people, and we look forward to getting back here again. The NCL Spirit was a nice ship, very clean. We only have one issue with the staff (the smoking thing discussed in the review), however, we know that this was NOT the staff's fault. Unfortunately, NCL policy would not allow for us to change rooms, which in turn made the first part of our trip miserable. In total, this is a great ship and an awesome itinerary! Highly recommend to ALL.

WORST CRUISE EVER by IreneHomsy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

I would never recommend this cruise to anyone.  Worst experience ever.  For Costa Cruises the customer does not count.  It is all about making money for the company.  We were not assisted by the crew when we faced a serious problem while disembarking in Corfu.  We were left alone and got home after a 12 hours trip sick and tired.  It s not what you expect from a cruise !!

1st Cruise... Very Picky!!! Loved Every Minute, Wonderful Crew, Service, and Experience!! by BrooklinBrian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Eurodam / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The 12 day, Mediterranean Empires Cruise that we embarked on this past July (July 17, 2016) was our very 1st cruise after more than 20 years of talking about doing so and researching all the major cruise companies, ships, and itineraries - and we were more than thrilled with the experience!

From start to finish the entire on-board (and off-board) experiences were extremely well organized, timely, handled with superb professionalism and friendliness, and we could not have really asked for more.

Staff and service was wonderful - this coming from an event planner / event organizer / B&B owner / retail customer service manager / professor.  Our cabin stewards and dining room staff were more than attentive, professional, humorous, and constantly went the extra mile without being intrusive (THANK YOU Deri, Evi, Hari, Yoga, and Jepteth - you all made the cruise so great).

Any dealing we had with staff at the customer service desk, excursion desk, special event rooms, the boutiques (we were there alot!!) casino, theatre, dining rooms and Lido restaurants, bars, photo areas, and off ship excursions - were again wonderful, thorough, friendly, and professional.

The ship is very well laid out - extremely well kept and maintained - easy to access all areas, and just fun to explore.

Food and food service was again superb - this again coming from someone in the industry. We loved the main dining room daily menu selections (and service) so much that we primarily ate there for each evening meal. We did have one evening meal upgraded to the Tamarine Restaurant, which was wonderful!   All of our other main meals - breakfasts, most lunched when on board, snacks, coffee breaks, desserts and desserts and desserts were usually taken in the massive Lido Buffet area - where there were more than ample selections, vast daily varieties, and special options so that we really never had the exact same buffet meal or snack more than once over the course of our 12 day adventure.

Our room - a deluxe balcony cabin (I was bond and determined that my first cruise experience had to have a balcony room) was great.  LOVED the balcony!!!  The bed and linen was wonderful - very comfortable. Cabin space was excellent - and was totally surprised and thrilled with the massive amount of closet space and under bed open storage for luggage, shopping bags, etc.

Each evening - bed turn down included the usual chocolates, towel sculpture, next day event schedule and manuals, etc.   Our rooms stewards also took our laundry bag each night, and had it returned cleaned and in better than perfect condition the next morning.  Fresh fruit was always in abundance in the room each day, and towels  / toiletries refreshed each day.

We began the cruise right after the government coup in Istanbul, Turkey which was one of the original main stops on the itinerary (as well as several other Turkish landing points). The cruise ship staff, captain announcements, print materials, and even emails prior to departing were wonderful in keeping us updated on the issue, and making the appropriate decisions for our safety, security, and enjoyment in regards to altering the actual cruise itinerary.  Instead of risking any ports and stops in Turkey, we ended up visiting several other Greek islands (which were AMAZING) and also extending the on-land excursion times at several other of the planned stops including extra time on Santorini - which proved to be one of the beneficial highlights of the trip.

All in all, I can not say enough on how amazing, enjoyable, and relaxing our experience was.   The other couple we traveled with have been on numerous other cruises with several other cruise lines - and they often mentioned  how much they enjoyed this ship and this cruise than any of the others they had taken.

We truly look forward to traveling again with Holland America!!!

Many Thanks for making our 1st crusie experience so wonderful!!!

Norwegian Jade - 7 Day Greek Island Cruise by tony66

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jade / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

This was our second time onboard Norwegian Jade and departing from Venice, but this time on another itinerary taking in Greek Islands.

We’d had a pre-cruise mini-break holiday for 5 days prior to departing. Having stopped at Naples before twice on other cruises, we’d chosen to go back there again. This really gave us time to explore the area, Sorrento and the sites like Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mt.vesuvius.

If you have the time to walk to top of the volcano then the views are fantastic, but wear stout walking shoes (trainers at the least) as it’s a steep walk in places and very loose fine gravel. A walkers pole/stick isn’t such a bad choice if venturing up!

Having used trains a little before in Italy we used their cross country train link to get from Naples to Venice the evening before the cruise. The service was perfectly on time and the fares are very good (when compared to UK v.high train fares!!!). So if needing to travel in and around Italy it’s well worth looking at their trains.

One of the stops was Corfu. There was literally piles and piles of public refuse gathered up in assorted streets and side of some roads, apparently some long running dispute and perhaps economic issues had resulted in no regular services collecting waste so it was just left to fester in ad-hoc piles. Such a shame for such an otherwise beautiful island. We just took a bus from the port into the old Corfu Town for 4 or 5 hours meander around. This was very easy and low cost option if you want a little explore of the old town.

The same issue with refuse was also evident when we took at tour to Olympia. Piles and piles of old festering public waste could be seen roadside as the coach drove from port to the archaeological site. Hopefully the Greek government and people have solved this already so won’t be there now!!!

For us, the best site on this cruise was Santorini. The views from the ship in the bay are glorious, and the views from the land back across the town down into the bay and sea beyond are simply stunning. We also took a tour to visit ancient Akrotiri archaeological site. There’s a huge hanger structure built over the excavations so limits the intensity of the sun. If you have a head for heights then the cable car down from the town is good fun. Alternatively you could try one of the stinky donkeys ;-)

Due to an emergency at home we were unable to enjoy the last three port stops as we had to organise flights home. We flew out of Mykonos to London. Can not thank all the members of staff who helped us throughout the toughest time trying to organise getting home ASAP. So helpful and went to great lengths to help.

My experience with Royal Caribbean by charlesclarke

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The cruise was good and my wife and I enjoyed it, however at the cruise terminal at the end of the cruise we were ushered off of the ship with all of our luggage at 9.15am but our transfer to the airport was not until 1.45pm and our flight time 4.45pm.  The fact that we had to carry our luggage around with us for 7 and a half hours did not seem to concern Royal Caribbean crew at all. After this experience I will never travel with them again and i would recommend other people do not either.

Dream Vacation by jirsan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Favorite part of the cruise:Ports visited, Entertainment onboard, Dining options onboard

This was our first cruise and due to the fantastic experience we had with Royal Caribbean it will definitely not be our last. From embarkation which was quite orderly and quick, to our stateroom with a window which was very comfortable. The bed was pretty close to being in our own bed!. I cannot commend the Dining room staff enough as well as the food. The meals were incredible. The food in the Windjammer was "okay" to "good". But the Dining room meals were over and above expectations. The cafe desserts were quite good as well. There are a couple things that I would have liked to have: a blanket and popcorn to watch the movies on deck. It was quite cool and popcorn is always a plus for movies!. Would like to have more options to get a snack after dinner. And just one thing. I think that Royal Caribbean should have a highlighter in each room. It would not cost much and would be a nice touch when we receive the daily Cruise Compass. Other than that, we had a superb cruise and thank everyone who helped make our cruise a dream vacation!

Royal Caribbean has become KMart of the Seas by afknight

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

I am a long-time cruiser, having cruised RC about a dozen times over the past 20 years.  While some RC cruise ships are a little better than others, they tended to be similar -- until I took the Rhapsody of the Seas.  This most recent cruise was an absolute shock.  The cost-cutting measures that RC have taken over the past year are extremely apparent and were thrown in our faces over the entire 10-day Mediterranean cruise.  For those of you who have cruised before, I'll let you in on a few of them:

* Nonstop (NONSTOP) upselling.  From internet options to beverage packages to premium restaurants to spa packages, RC is hounding you at all hours, at every activity, to buy something.  Yes, they've always offered additional packages, but I've never spent a cruise feeling like I was being hustled on a used car lot. * Major cutbacks on past benefits.  Did you enjoy lobster night?  Well, now RC offers lobster EVERY night -- for an upcharge of $30.  And both the menu and waiter will remind you EVERY night that you can buy these add-ons.  If you enjoyed complimentary prime rib and lobster before, be prepared to shell out cash for these and other benefits. * Limited activities.  On the back of your Daily Compass is a listing of the day's activities.  A few years ago, maybe 80% of the activities were complimentary, and many (albeit not all) of them could be pretty fun.  On the Rhapsody of the Seas, at most 50% of the activities were complimentary -- the rest were "activities" consisting of you paying for spa activities or buying overpriced art or learning about the excursions they sell.  (As a sidenote, even their excursions, which have always been more expensive than what can be purchased onshore, are now a solid 3x market price.  My wife and I consistently paid $50 for the same excursion offered by RC for $149.95.)  And of the activities that were complimentary, most of them were, well, pretty lame.  Lots of trivia and bingo (which, by the way, they profit from).  The evening shows weren't too bad, and my wife and I enjoyed a few of them. * Reduced staffing expertise (which probably costs less).  It's possible that we just had the most incompetent waiter on the planet.  But at our table of 8, every single night our waiter would mess up at least TWO orders, and the meals never arrived anywhere near the same time (leaving us to awkwardly wait several minutes for the rest of the table to be served).  He was very, very nice and very hardworking, but the service was atrocious -- and from speaking to others, this was not uncommon.  By the 6th day of the cruise, the running joke at our table was whether we should order a different entree than what we wanted, in the hopes we might actually get what we wanted! * The Rhapsody of the Seas is a run-down ship that's ready for retirement.  It has the feeling of a 2-star Vegas hotel.

The straw that broke the camel's back was during the "Love and Marriage" game.  All three men (understandably) wanted a drink on stage.  But the show was interrupted for a couple minutes while the contestants and the waitress fumbled around with their SeaPass card to make sure the drinks were paid for.  WHILE THE CONTESTANTS WERE ON STAGE.  Let that sink in.  RC was using its own paying customers to provide the show's entertainment, and wouldn't even comp their drinks while on stage!  It was awkward for the entire audience.

On the plus side, the Captain seemed to genuinely care about the ship and the staff was hard-working and friendly.  (It's not their fault they were understaffed!)  Also, they went out of their way to give us an additional hour at one of the ports of call.  Further, our room (while outdated) was clean and the housekeeping staff did a good job.

I think if this was a person's first cruise, they would enjoy the mediocre food, the ports of call, and many of the shows.  If they got the cruise for $50 or $70 a night (per person), it wouldn't be a bad deal.  But anyone who had cruised RC before and expected its past glory will be sorely disappointed.  Sadly, RC is a sinking ship at this point.  Clearly someone at the corporate helm made some decisions that will inevitably increase profits for the next year or two, but will soon morph RC into the KMart of the seas.

Great Adriatic Cruise on "Connie" B2B by Zip01002

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Constellation / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

We are an American couple in our mid-60’s who were on a B2B in the Mediterranean and Adriatic for a total of 22 nights.  We very much enjoyed the first one of our 12-night Mediterranean cruise which started on April 27 from Civitavecchia and ended on May 9 in Venice.  I posted a summary of that cruise with details about the “Constellation”, food, entertainment, service and the ports called “Very Nice Mediterranean Cruise on Connie” if you’d like to check it out.

This review is for the second part of the B2B which was the 10-night Adriatic cruise RT from Venice starting May 9.  It was our 14th on Celebrity and 37th overall.  Since we’d been on the “Constellation” six other times, the “Infinity” twice and the “Millennium” once, we knew the ship and its features well.

Our experience on the ship on this cruise was very similar to the first one of our B2B.  Our belongings were seamlessly moved from Cabin #8036 (2B Unobstructed Balcony) to Cabin #3008 (Ocean View) which were near the forward elevators on the starboard side.  The layout of both cabins was very similar with a shelf under the window where the balcony door would be.  The storage was adequate, but it would be nice to have a few more drawers in the closet.  Since there are only two hooks on the walls, we bring magnetic hooks to give us some additional options for hanging clothes and papers.

The food in the MDR was very good and the pizza and pasta station in the buffet were good.  The entertainment was excellent and we continued to enjoy three production shows (“iHollywood”, “The Land of Make Believe” and “Celebrate The World”) even though we’ve seen them many times.  The cast was terrific especially Robert who also was a very funny guest on Celebrity’s version of the “Tonight Show”.  Cruise Director Maarten and Activities Manager Taylor were the best team we’ve seen anywhere as they started the party and kept the fun going.  Graeme Kelleher is without question the best Captain’s Club Host we’ve ever had.  The DJs also kept playing danceable music in the Reflections Lounge until late several nights even though only a few couples were still there (sometimes after 2:00 am).  The overall service at all levels was great.  We’d had lots of problems with “Select Dining” on the first cruise getting tables in our preferred section, but it improved on this cruise with a couple of exceptions.  So, overall we had an excellent time.

As with the first cruise, we had the Classic Beverage Package as one of our included perks.  We really liked being able to get bottles of water when leaving the ship on every port call and during the day while onboard.  We also got cans of soda and glasses of OJ whenever we needed them.  In the evenings, we’d have several glasses of wine with dinner and other drinks in the theater as well as the bars and lounges.  It was really nice to order whatever you wanted and not worry about signing for anything.  It also lubricated our dancing!  Obviously, there’s a balance for drinking alcohol late at night vs. being ready to go on an excursion the next morning, but we adjusted as needed during the 22 days/nights on the two cruises.

There were eight ports and two days at seas on this itinerary.  We still like to do what we can on own but since we’re getting older, we did more ship’s excursions than in the past.  This time, it was pretty skewed as we only did one port completely on our own and seven with the ship.  Here’s a summary of what we did in each port:

We were in Venice overnight on the last day of first of our B2Bs.  We walked from the ship docked at Marittimato pier to the People Mover station.  There was a long line of people waiting to buy tickets for about $2.  We didn’t bother to use it as it wasn’t much longer of a walk into Venice and we probably got there faster than people at the end of the line (and we saved $4).  Once there, we each bought a pricey 24-hour vaporetto pass for 20 Euro (about $23) and went to Murano and Burano.  Note that it took about three hours for that route so you need to allow enough time (especially if some of the vaporettos are so packed, you’d have to wait for the next one to arrive).  The following day, we continued to use the same pass to go St. Marks.  We had the typical Venetian experience as we wandered around getting lost until we found the train station. We then took our last boat ride and returned to the ship in plenty of time for the start of the second of our B2B cruises.

In Koper, Slovenia, we did the “KR16 Lake Bled and Island” tour at $130 pp.  It was a little pricey, but the lake is a long distance from the port.  We’d been there in 2009 on a land tour, but that was in February so the boats didn’t go out to Slovenia’s only island.  It took several hours to get there by bus, but we enjoyed the boat ride with one man paddling with two oars.  We trekked up the steep stairs to the top of the hill, but unfortunately the church was under repair so you couldn’t go in.  However, it was still nice to get there.

After that part of the tour, we were offered two options:  you could stay in the town to shop, eat or just wander around or the bus would take you up to the Bled Castle.  If you opted for the castle, you could walk up a fairly steep cobblestone ramp to the ticket booth and get somewhat of a view.  For 10 Euro, you could enter the courtyard where you got the full panorama including the island.  While we were in line, a man gathered 10 people and got us in at a discount at 8 Euro each.  There were more than 10 of us from the bus so the guide could have mentioned this to us so we could have done the same within our group.

Once inside, there was an interesting museum, a wine cellar and an indoor restaurant plus outside tables overlooking the walls.  The restrooms were free even if you didn’t buy anything.  Even though we’d been there before, it was well worth the small additional cost (especially since we’re not shoppers and would have been a little bored in town).

In Zadar, Croatia, we booked the “RZ13 Krka National Park – Half Day” tour at $85 each.  We drove into the mountains for a couple of hours and finally reached the park.  There were hundreds of small and large streams and waterfalls everywhere as you walked for about an hour on a boardwalk around a loop.  About halfway out, there were some picnic tables where we had sandwiches, cookies and sodas that we brought from the ship.  It was an interesting tour although some avid photographers blocked the path many times to take a ridiculous amount of “selfies”.

We’d been to Split, Croatia before and seen Diocletian’s Palace and the other major sights in the town.  So, we booked the ship’s “AT08 Ancient Salona and the Town of Trogir” (aka “Roman Ruins of Salona and Trogir”) for $60 each.  It was a very gray day and drizzly, but we were able to see the ruins in Salona without getting soaked.  We walked around the area to see how large the town used to be when it was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia.  There was also a small museum which had free restrooms.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t time to visit the amphitheater as it was too far to see it within the time constraints on this tour.

We then continued to the town of Trogir which was founded about 2,300 years ago.  It’s said to be the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic but in all of Central Europe.  There were many limestone buildings and we visited several churches.  We were also treated to some Croatian songs from an acapella group of five men who were selling CDs.  After trying to stay out of the rain on the promenade, I climbed up the bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Lawrence which was included in the admission price as part of the tour.  There were quite a few stairs leading to a steep ladder and a tight squeeze to get to the highest level which offered a great view of the tiled roofs below.  The only problem was that it started to pour and the rain came flying in through the open sides of the tower.  I was soaked to the bone, but so was everyone else as they made their way back to the bus!

In Dubrovnik, we did the “DU10 Highlights of Dubrovnik Riviera” for $73 each.  We went to higher ground on the bus where we stopped to take pictures of the panoramic view of the walled city below.  We drove further to the Konavoski Dvori restaurant which was next to a river with some of the water routed to waterwheels.  We were served some local meat, cheese and bread plus a choice of a glass of red or white wine.  It was only about 10:00 am so it was a little early to be drinking, but it was a nice stop for a break and restrooms.

We continued down the coast to Cavtat, a fishing village and seaside resort, where we had about an hour of free time.  The promenade was nice and had many benches where you could rest and look out over the quiet harbor.  We then returned to Dubrovnik where we had a guided walking tour.  The streets were very crowded and noisy so we weren’t able to hear much of the commentary (even with the earbuds for the “whispers”).  Since it was early May and there were only two large cruise ships in port, we couldn’t imagine what the crowds would be like in the high summer season with many more ships there.  Dubrovnik is the classic example of the double-edged sword of cruising:  being able to see wonderful sights from the comfort of your ship vs. finding an overwhelming number of people doing the same thing which lessens the experience for everyone.

At that point, we decided to break away from our group and the crowds to head for the cable car station above the city.  On the stairway to get there, many shops were selling RT tickets for 120 Kuna ($18 pp), but we weren’t sure if they were higher priced than the official venue.  It turned out that they were the same price, but you still had to wait in the same queue with or w/o tickets.  It was not an original idea as there was a pretty long line when we arrived.  Some people bailed out to take a taxi up to the top which made it a little quicker, but we still waited for about 45 minutes before we got to the ticket booth.

There are two cable cars, one going up and one coming down.  They each hold about 35 passengers and move quickly to the top or bottom in less than 5 minutes.  Once you’re up there, you’ll get a great view of the walled city on the sea side and the mountains on the other side.  There’s a restaurant, a small amphitheater where you can eat your own food and free restrooms.  We brought sandwiches and cookies from the ship and relaxed there enjoying the views in all directions.  There was a line for going down, but it didn’t take too long.  It’s definitely worth the cost if the weather is clear.

Once we got to the bottom, we walked back to the city, went to the Pile Gate area and joined the short queue for the shuttle bus to the ship.  It’s free if you have any Celebrity excursion sticker or you can buy tickets if needed.  It took about 15 minutes to get back.

In Kotor, Montenego, we booked the “KV19 Seaside Resorts of Budva and Kotor” at $65.  On the way to Budva, the bus stopped at an overlook so we could see Sveti Stefan, the famous high-end resort island on the Montenegrin Riviera.  There was a lot of construction going on to widen the road and to build more hotels and casinos.  Once in Budva, the weather wasn’t great, but we did a walking tour to the stone fort, citadel, church and other buildings above a nice harbor and a beach with some pounding surf.  We had about an hour of free time to walk around with an option to get some food and drinks at a local restaurant.

We then returned to Kotor where we were led on a walking tour through the Sea Gate inside the walls.  It’s one of the best preserved medieval old towns in the Adriatic and is a UNESCO world heritage site.  The architecture was interesting and there were many shops.  If the weather wasn’t so gray and drizzly, I might have attempted to walk up the many steps to St. John’s Castle high above the city.  Maybe we’ll give that a shot next time.

When we were in Naples on the first cruise of our B2B, we did the ferry on our own to Capri and Anacapri.  As we’d been to Pompeii many times, we opted for the ship’s “NP06 The Ruins of Herculaneum” for $73.  We were surprised to see that the site was located in the middle of a residential neighborhood in the modern city/commune of Ercolano.  Our first view of the ruins was looking down from above into the excavations.  Our guide was great as he explained that only one fourth of the buried city has been uncovered so you got a sense of how large it was at that time.  Unlike Pompeii, it was quickly buried in ash so it was virtually untouched when it was excavated.  Casts were made of many skeletons of the people who were instantly killed by the intense heat of the eruption and are placed where they found them.  The tour was very comprehensive as we visited pretty much every street, house and building.  We’d definitely recommend it as a nice alternative to the crowds at Pompeii.

In Catania, Sicily, we did another ship’s excursion called “CQ21 Panoramic Catania” for $55.  Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing tour of our B2B as the city and surrounding area were very gray and rundown with litter everywhere which looked like it had been there for years.  The bus dropped us off at an overlook of the Aci Castello, a castle built on black lava almost 1,000 years ago.  We then did a “drive by” through some cities and historical areas, but we didn’t stop again.  We returned by the same route to Catania where we had a walking tour.  This was certainly better as the buildings and church exteriors were very interesting.  We also saw the Roman ruins and the fountain from the underground river that provides drinking water to the city.  Our guide also helped us to buy two deep-fried arancinis for 1.80 Euro ($2) each.  They were the size of your fist and both had rice with one having tomato added and the other with eggplant and cheese.  It was a very filling local treat and the highlight of this tour.

At the end of the cruise, we booked the ship’s transfer by bus to the Marco Polo airport at $34 each.  We did that to simplify things so we wouldn’t have to hassle with cabs or water taxis at the port.  We got on the Celebrity bus w/o any problems and things were looking fine.  However, when we got to the airport area, the bus stopped in a parking lot and everyone had to roll their bags up an incline in the rain with construction in progress.  There were no carts to use and really not much direction from the staff as to what to do.  Apparently, their buses are not allowed to drive to the covered airport entrance which was a surprise to us and the other guests.  Not exactly the best way to end an otherwise nice cruise!

All in all, we had a great time, even with so many ports in so few days.  About the only thing that didn’t please us during the cruise was Celebrity charging $12 pp for transfers from the ship’s port to some of the cities.  If they have to dock that far away, they really should be included.  We did ship’s excursions those days so we didn’t have to pay, but it’s not fair to the independent travelers.

In the coming ten months, we have three more cruises booked on the “Millennium” in Asia and another three on the “Solstice” in New Zealand, South Pacific and Australia.  We’re definitely enjoying our experiences with Celebrity and we hope that our satisfaction continues.

Good cruise. by VagabondQueen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

I really enjoyed the itinerary --- Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Turkey, Greece and Montenegro.  My only complaint about the ship is that loudspeaker announcements could not be heard in staterooms, so we could not hear important information, such as changes in debarkation and all aboard times. In one port, we missed 90 minutes of a private tour because we did not hear the changes and, despite our twice calling to request the data, were never notified of the changes.  We were told emergency announcements could be heard in staterooms and saw the speaker controls in our cabin.  I believe the decision whether to hear announcements should rest with passengers not the ship.

Nightmare of the Seas by tsamuel9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Splendour of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

the room was freezing and when I asked literally 5 different times to have them look at it a loud noise started to come from the unit and they wouldn't find me another room. Well, I thought I had no choice but the noise was so loud I couldn't sleep. I had to go down and scream at them at then finally a room opened up. I would not recommend royal carribean for anyone planning a cruise. I met another passenger and they had a similar experience but they didn't know that if you scream and yell that's how you get these people's attention. I hate that I had to go there but I was left with no choice. My new friend just put up with it for 7 days! How terrible for a company to knowingly sell rooms that are troubled and then offer no alternative. NEVER go on this ship. There were animal sounds coming from the walls, I called it in and 5 min later there someone trying to take care of it, but DAMN why was it there to begin with????

hello

If you want to make a cruise NEVER go on the msc poesia, this vessel, should be towed, in to a dock for demolition.

everything is old, the ROOM, for 4 people is so smal, you can not get to the balcony, without rolling over the pirate bed, that stands almost in the middel of the room,

And yes I made a complain, and yes i was in everything RIGHT, but no one could help us, even the head of the department mrs mira ( she is dutch and was very friendly ) but nothing worked!!!!!

MSC had never be allowed to sell this trip, for 3 adults and one child in ONE room!!!!

it was a night mare!!!

no place to put your clothe for 4 , even the badroom not enouf storage for everthing

so if you diside to make a cruis

DONT GO WITH MSC POESIA !!!!!

We couldn't wait to get off. by GarethMorgan

Ship: Queen Elizabeth / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

We booked a seventeen night cruise on "Queen Elizabeth".

Cunard claim that the ship has WiFi, an essential prerequisite as I need to keep in contact with my business, much of which nowadays is done on line.

Once the 120 minutes of 'free' time have been used  you can purchase further I.T. time at the eye-watering price of $.65 per minute.

Briefly, the connection is a poor one. It may break half way through an email, or freeze on an open page. The only solution is to log of and then back in again, whereupon the whole sorry saga may well be repeated..

Cunard peddle the corporate lie that is you, perhaps your inexpertise, which is the cause of the problem.

Having run up a staggering additional bill of several hundred dollars, I appealed to the Ship's 'Hotel Service Manager", the corpulent and complacent Basil Fawlty of Cunard, expecting recompense.

Far from it.

I was barred from further use of the Internet by this individual, resulting in the loss of a a £2500 time sensitive export deal.

Thanks a lot , Cunard, never again!

Ship: Norwegian Jade / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Our suite was quite nice and the butler (Benny) was great. This is the good part,.

Majority of the staff was NOT helpful. When asking information about shore tours they didn't understand what you were asking. FOOD was boring, everything was the same day in and day out no matter what restaurant you went to, from Cagney's to the Grand Pacific Main Dining Room.

Did not see our Concierge (Bruno Dentone) getting abroad and disembarkation.

Would try another NCL ship but not the Jade.

Overall good value by park1tennis

Ship: Norwegian Jade / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The length was perfect after a 14 days on land tour of Croatia & Venice. The two specialty restaurants that we were able to book on our Ultimate dining was very good and the food was prepared with taste. The main dining room and cafe, food was average in taste. My priority on cruises are conveniences of being taken care of on the cruise from beginning to end, next is quality of food, excursion quality based on interest and allowance of time at each port.

Adriatic and Greek islands 10/02 - 10/09 by MarianaTolman

Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Disappointed in room with balcony;  no view when you sit;  "rescue boat"? spoiled the view!

No sign of a SA flag;  there were more than 50 passengers from South Africa;  and no flag to represent us!

Water very expensive!

Nice relaxing trip by RedbeardCoach

Ship: Splendour of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The size of the junior stateroom was nice. We traveled with another couple and had plenty of room for the four of us to hang out in the room when we wanted.

The food options were numerous and all very good. The dinners were very good, but made especially nice by our servers, who really did a fantastic job.

The stops were nice, and we took several excursions. The only issue was with one of the United excursions (not booked directly with Royal Carribean). They cut the departure time too close, then when the bus got stuck in traffic we ended up being late for the ship. The crew on duty at the ship were not very happy, but it was totally out of our control. In the end we made it on board, but it was a very stressful incident that could have been avoided had the tour been coordinated with our 'on board' leave time.

The best part was the United Athens excursion to the Acropolis. We ended up with a driver and guide for the four of us in a small van. They were able to accommodate our preferences, and we were not at all rushed.

Overall the cruise was great, and we liked the ship and itinerary.

Not for English Speaking Cruisers by shiamary

Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

It was our own mistake to book a cruise through an Italian cruise line.  We felt very left out as the main language used on board is Italian and other European language. On the Deliziosa, they don't provide hot water or beverages in the buffet restaurant apart from meal times. Even drinking water during meal times at the Albatros Restaurant are chargeable unless you pay for a water package to be included in your cabin. We also noticed many rude and unfriendly people on the ship! This is definitely our first and last cruise on board an Italian Cruise ship.
