Just finished our Mexican Riviera cruise on carnival Miracle yesterday. Not many kids on ship likely due to time of year (which was fine by me). It's so true that each ship has it's own distinctive personality. Best advice would be to know what that is and if it's compatible to your liking. We ended up booking excursions through carnival and glad we did. There was a change in itinery regarding what ports we would hit first and because we booked via carnival it was THEM who rearranged all our plans. I would have been stressed had it been my responsibility to change our excursions. If you have a late flight after cruise and want to kill time there's a free passport bus right out front of queen Mary that will take you to the aquirium. Aquarium was $29 per person and get this.....they will store your luggage for free with paid admission! When done just take uber to long beach airport ($22 for 2 people). Most carnival employees were somewhat pleasant although we thought room attendants were by far the friendliest of all. Maybe my expectations were a little unreasonable as this is only my second cruise so I have only one other to compare it to. Either way, it was nice getaway for my daughter and I and we LOVED the ports!
