Stayed at The Holiday Inn Express the night before. They have free transport to and from the ship. Be sure to go to Murdocks to shop or just sit in the rocking chairs and watch the Ocean .

I was apprehensive heading out and I didnt want to get off the ship when we returned so poor Galveston got hit with my only 2 negatives on this trip. However we did hit the Mosquito Cafe while waiting to board it was a nice little cafe,

Some people give this port a 1 star and say it looks trashy.....those are the people that fly in, hop on ship, then get off ship and fly home. Take some time either before or after your cruise to explore Galveston. Tons of history in this island!

This was a 4-hour drive from where we live, so it's my preferred port to save me money from having to fly. We drove in the day before embarkation to relieve stress. We stayed at a hotel on the beach, where we could literally walk up to the water. There were so many seashells on the beach - we enjoyed that. There is also a pier with rides called the Pleasure Pier, but we didn't stop by only because it was a little rainy that day.

Port was small but well organized. Not enough spaces for buses and shuttles to park. Staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed at a hotel on the seawall and the beach day was wonderful.
