We took the city bus, rather than an excursion, to the Butchart Gardens where we had high tea in the tea room. Lovely! The gardens are exquisite. The bus ride is about an hour each way and just $5 for an all day ticket. This way we could be on our own time schedule. We are comfortable using public transportation and have done so all over the world.

Went on a whale watching excursion we purchased thru Celebrity. Mother Nature didn’t intend for us to see any whales but we did see bald eagles & huge seals.

We were late getting into Victoria due to high winds in the Strait. Our Orca whale watching cruise still went out but should not have. Five hours, zero whales, one porpoise, at least a half-dozen seasick passengers, one completely soaked husband (from waves over side of boat), one bruised backside (from getting airborne more times than I can count), and a VERY sketchy ride back to port in the dark. Tour was two hours late and thank goodness we booked thru HAL because the ship waited for us. Props to HAL for refunding it to our shipboard account before we even got back to the boat. Don’t care to repeat that adventure!

We took a horse drawn carriage ride through some of the historical parts of the city near the port. There was not a lot of time to do a lot in Victoria, but we were able to get a taste of the city and the history.

If you are spent out and looking for less costly things to do, get a city map upon leaving the ship, then take the shuttle bus and get off at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. From there you can walk to Beacon Hill Park. The flowers and landscaping are gorgeous and watching the ducks and geese in the pond is a blast.

Very nice city. Did not do an excursion. Took the shuttle and it was well worth it. The shuttle fee is round trip and worth it unless you are a real hiker.

Not a whole lot to do here, the walk to go anywhere is far. We walked to a castle and toured it and then took a taxi back to the boat and that was it.
