Sailing out of San Diego is great. Easy to get to port and plenty of affordable over-nighter hotels to stay in. Plenty of things to do, if you're staying a little longer.

Looking forward to this cruise. Been through the canal twice in 1972 & 1979 on Coast Guard Cutters (both north to south). Noreaga was in power on the first transit and we were at GQ the entire time, stopping at the Navy base just to pick up provisions and got the hell out of there enroute to Honolulu via San Diego.

We’ve been to San Diego many times. So we decided to do something fun for the kids. Didn’t do any ship excursion. Just walked about 20 minutes or so to the San Diego New Children museum (thinkplaycreate.org). It was a nice walk and we got to swing by seaport village on the way. The Children Museum wowed us. Our kids had a blast.

My husband, our son, his wife and their 3 kids all wished we'd have come a day early to explore San Diego. We much prefer sailing from San Diego rather than Los Angeles because the airport is so close by and so a taxi from one to the other is fast and inexpensive.

We had a blast in San Diego, visited Seaport Village, bought bagels at a bagel shop, and of course, coffee at Starbucks. Boars Head had fabulous food, and the Beach Hut deli is a sandwich shop you don’t want to miss.
