First time parasailing! Catalina Island is a good intermediate stop on the way to Mexico. Not a lot of things to do, but it's worth a day off the ship.

Walked the town of Avalon up and down. Did some shopping and had a delicious lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Felt safe, great setting.

If you are not adventurous there is not much to do other than shop and eat. Take a long casual walk, meet locals they are great to talk with. I recommend the miniature golf and eating at the little taqueria next to the course. Some shops have seasonal hours. Google shopping before your trip for seasonal hours/closures. Go to PETE's CAFE...a must!

Take a golf cart tour. The views from the top of the mountain are incredible. Be prepared to pay cash for the cart rental.
