It was the end of the world! Most shops in town geared to those making the trek to the Antarctic. Walked in town, small artisan market, unfortunately most shops closed for their summer holidays. A few good shops near pier. Joined Train tour...DO NOT take this tour...boring, a bit macabre about the prisoners. Would have liked more time in port .

The city is in a stunning setting, and it has a very interesting history. We learned about it on the bus to and from the dock for our excursion to see the Magellanic Penguins on Magdalena Island. We also saw lots of sea lions and sea birds. Great experience all around.

Beautiful city with friendly people. Prepare for a more rustic experience...restaurants and other venues/activities are casual. You can easily walk along the waterfront and there are some small cafes and shops along the way. If you want to venture further into town, be prepared for a steep 'hike' up the hill that makes up the town of Ushuaia. I would recommend the 4WD Off Road tour with Antar Tur/Tangol (booked independently, not through the ship): https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g312855-d11452418-4WD_Off_Road_Lakes_Tierra_del_Fuego_Adventure_From_Ushuaia-Ushuaia_Province_of_Tie.html
