Amazing Vacation

Sail Date: November 21, 2015

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

The cruise around the southern tip of South America was truly an unforgettable experience. The ports of call were each unique, and introduced us to a variety of cultures, geography, temperatures, wildlife, cuisine, and people. The guest lecturer on board the Norwegian Sun gave very interesting talks on each port as well as the wildlife and birds we might encounter. The lecturer also gave pointers on how to prepare to be safe in each port.

The other cruise guests were interesting to meet and get to know on the long journey.

Highlights including seeing glaciers, volcanos, whales, porpoises, albatrosses, and penguins. We even got to watch a penguin hatch out of it's egg! (at about 3 feet away from us)

The staff on the ship all made us feel valued and important. They were attentive, helpful, and friendly.

I would definitely recommend this cruise and this cruise line!

Cabin / Stateroom
Quiet hallway with hardly any rooms so there was no noise from other guests. There was a half set of stairs and no elevator stops for this floor as it is actually floor 6.5, located between floors 6 and 7. Don't reserve a room on this floor if you have difficulty navigating stairs.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
Ship Quality
The Sun is going in for refurbishment in a few months.
Destinations and Excursions
Having a guest lecturer was definitely a plus!
Onboard Activities
Service and Staff
Food and Dining
Great variety of food in small portions so you can order more of what you like!
Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile
Walking tour with "Tours for Tips" was highly informative. Pre-register online for free! 3 hour tour and included a ride on the funicular.
Puerto Montt, Chile
Must see Petryhue Falls, bavarian town of Frutillar.
Puerto Chacabuco, Chile
Make sure to go up the gorgeous Simpson River Valley to Coyhaquie. Beautiful scenery, waterfalls, river gorges, variety of terrain and biomes.
Cruise Patagonic Channel
Cruise Chilean Fjords
Cruise Strait Of Magellan
Punta Arenas, Chile
If you want to see penguins, go to the Island tour, not the Otoway colony. The Otoway penguins did not show up this year.
Cruise Beagle Channel
Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina
It was interesting to take the city tour on the old double decker bus, and then to tour the penitentiary that has now been converted into a museum.
Cruise Cape Horn
Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
Puerto Madryn, Argentina
The penguin colony in Puerto Tombo is a must see! 210,000 breeding pairs of penguins!!
Montevideo, Uruguay
Puerto Mercado with all the barbequing meats was mouth watering to tour.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Take a city tour to see the main tourist sites and then walk up and down the pedestrian only street, Florida. But be aware of thieves at all times, and don't make yourself an easy target!
