Review summary

Great ports, shabby ship, crappy food, constant upselling

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Traffic nightmare d/t construction and congestion. Poor signage and directions from ground crew who spoke little English. Check in process longer than needed to be because personnel new to job and technology. What was the point of filling in all the form prior to embarkation?

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Quality noticeably declined, not fine dining anymore. Burger and fries?! Constant up selling of specialty restaurants. Breakfast was abysmal! Eggs were pre-cooked and were cold and over cooked when I asked for over easy! Toasts were also "pre-toasted", so when it arrived to the table, it was cold and chewy. The only thing that arrived hot was the porridge and omelettes.

Crown Grill

Pub lunch was disappointing, COLD fish and chips! Sent back for hot items!

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

Yelling, screaming, singing louder does not equal quality!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our waiter was outstanding, difficult for him since the quality of the food was such disaster! Once we found a good wait staff, we would request their table for lunch and breakfast. We learnt this after a diasterous lunch with a waitress who really didn't care or even bothered to care. We found Juan Luis and Alex were our go to guys table #99 & 100! Alex remembered our drinks after our first sitting with them! A real asset to the team.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Clean, dated. Furniture worn, need of updating.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Clean, comfortable, needs more drawers rather than shelves. TV choices need updating!

Ship tip

Ports worth trip! Captain did not seem too approachable, never had someone refuse to shake my hand! Ever heard of Gloves?! Felt like loyalty not appreciated.

Ports of call

Buenos Aires, Argentina

4 out of 5
Busy, vibrant...traffic! Best to spend day or two exploring prior to embarkation. Easily explored on foot! Will take U$ most places. Took excursions from Expedia . Don't bother with Tigre boat cruise...BORING!

Montevideo, Uruguay

4 out of 5
Nice vacation seaside resort. Walkable everywhere. Didn't join tour, walked main street, had gelatos and fab empanadas!

Puerto Madryn, Argentina

Visited Penguin rookery, worth the long ride out! Amazing! LOTS of Madgellenic penguins and their chicks. Small souvenir shop, limited variety but only stop.

Port Stanley, Falkland Islands

4 out of 5
Luckily seas calm enough for us to tender. Had to anchor 2 hrs earlier and departed earlier. Windy, barren, British outpost. Took 4x4 out to penguins....Very bumpy no roads, just mud holes! Saw king penguins and chicks. Great small local souvenir shop with complimentary tea Cafe! Good selection of souvenirs, but most made in UK for sale in Stanley?! Weather storm came in quickly, didn't have time to have a pint in town after tour or even spend £ in small gift shop.

Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina

It was the end of the world! Most shops in town geared to those making the trek to the Antarctic. Walked in town, small artisan market, unfortunately most shops closed for their summer holidays. A few good shops near pier. Joined Train tour...DO NOT take this tour...boring, a bit macabre about the prisoners. Would have liked more time in port .

Punta Arenas, Chile

4 out of 5
Joined Expedia tour to visit Petrohoe falls & volcanoes. Small van, great guide. Worth $. Wished we had more time in German village for food and souvenir shopping.

Puerto Montt, Chile

4 out of 5
Did not join Princess tour. Instead found guide to drive to city lookout, and ski lifts for 1/3$ and 1/3 people!

San Antonio, Chile

1 out of 5
Princess changed dock from Valparaiso to San Antonio, which is a 1.5 hour drive to Valparaiso. San Antonio NOT equipped to handle cruise ship! CHAOS! Luckily we booked a tour from Expedia who was able to accommodate change in ports. Others had to pay $$$to princess for shuttle.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
San Antonio NOT equipped or suitable for cruise ships! CHAOS, personnel spoke little to no English. Have to rely on princess shuttle to get to airport if u haven't made other arrangements since cabs not available.

This ship must have changed since out December 2017 cruise. We enjoyed every aspect of the ship, including the decor and the food...
