We took the city tour which was depressing. While we do have an interest in the poverty we saw, our vacation cruise was not the venue for it. The tour ended at a local resort which demonstrated a large disparity in wealth disbursement but we couldn't help but feel uncomfortable knowing about the hardship that was only a mile away.

Another opportunity to see what Central America is like. We traveled to a banana plantation and packing plant. Interesting to see where the bananas in the market come from, but most interesting to ride through the countryside on the way to see how people live.

Not much to offer. We were told it was unsafe to go into town so we were stuck at the port building for the vendors. The port was for commercial shipping so not much to look at.

Wonderful handcrafted linens, belts, and purses available at the port. Be sure to bargain.

We went on a river boat up the Rio Dulce, a beautiful ride into the jungle. We had stops in Livingston and a school on the river. We saw and interacted with many locals. We went with an on shore guide we found on the internet.

Beautiful place, but the "las escobas waterfall" excursion is not really a waterfall like you would think, more of a tiny amount of water trickling down a rock. Not worth the money.

The people were wonderful. We did the rainforest hike. Great! Don't let the working port fool you. Get out there!
