Take the tour...........see the banana plantaion, the train, the bus, the boat.....!! We didn't visit the restaurants..........We love to see the "culture" of the area. I don't feel anyting is a waste of time if your visiting a place for the first time.

In hindsight we should have booked an excursion because the port area is jus another tourist shopping market.

Booked a tour from right outside the ship. Much cheaper than cruise rates

Costa Rica's beautiful. We had a great time. We did a canal boat tour sightseeing in the rainforest and visited the banana plantation. We also visited the beach for about 30 minutes. the beach was okay but there was no swimming signs posted and I would not have wanted to spend the day there.

This port is not very attractive, although there are some limited shopping options. Costa Rica is known for its beautiful rainforest and natural features, yet our excursion did not meet expectations. The beach, small "rain forest" and the countryside bus ride was disappointing. The tour also included an ecological boat ride through some canals, with some wildlife spotted, including sloths, monkeys and dolphins...this was nice, although the canal itself was not visually very attractive. Talking to other passengers, some had great experiences on excursions, particularly those that went deep into the rain forest and more remote areas.

I know it's a new stop, but it needs a lot of work to improve the dock area.

There's not much to do there and you can see the poverty in the city and countryside, but they were friendly and didn't harass you to death to buy stuff. Would I want to go there again? Probably not.
