They need transportation/shuttle from the ship to the end of the pier...too far to walk for older passengers

Took bus ride into city - should have hired a cab for 3 hrs as recommended by the shopping Guru. It was okay, but street vendors were overly aggressive. Nice city, safe, but really hot temperature/humidity - (this was not the hot season).

The guide was excellent but the number of vendors that approached us to buy was overwhelming. It made the excursion less enjoyable.

Pesky hawkers aside, we loved it and would definitely go back. I would skip any excursion and just take a cab to wherever you want to go.

I was very hesitant about even wanting to get of the ship in Cartagena. Boy am I glad I did! What a beautiful and friendly city. The old town is remarkably lovely - I felt like I could have been in any small town in Europe. Charming! If your like emeralds, buy them here

We hired a private car to take us on an excursion. It was nice, but if you go this route, make sure that the car has permission to drive on the pier to the ship. Otherwise, you will need to take a shuttle to the main terminal and meet up there. Cartagena is a bustling city with lots to see. We went to the fortress, the mission on top of the hill, and the walled city - a UNESCO heritage site. Wish we had more time there...
