It was a great cruise where the places visited stood out. The ship was nice as was the food. Just not particularly memorable. Crew could've been more friendly...

Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The food options on the Island Princess were limited. The food was not bad at all, just limited. Few places to eat, but mainly repetitive. By the end of the ten days, it felt dull even.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We didn't really participate in a whole lot of activities. I did enjoy the lectures by Bill Hall (?). Very informative and entertaining too. We also enjoyed the evenings movies under the stars. Very nice with the cushioned lounge chairs, blankets and popcorn.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Except for a few, Lido bartender and woman at buffet and MDR who looked exactly like the woman in the 007 movie For Your Eyes Only, I would say that the staff did their job, but nothing more. Certainly not very friendly. Polite, but not friendly.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship felt clean and fresh. Looked like new carpets and some new furniture.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We were upgraded to C319, so our balcony was bigger than normal. That was nice. The room was also nice and clean. Only reason I give this 4 rather than 5 stars is the size of the shower. 2'x2' or so. Luckily we are not big people, but I honestly can't see how someone overweight or really tall could even fit in there. Much less take a shower.
Ship tip
The ship is small which makes it a breeze to get anywhere you need to go.
Listen to the lectures prior if available. Very well worth it. For example, we learned that you definitely need to get the amazing view of the locks from the rear of the ship. Can't remember now if that was deck 7 or 8, but seek it out and you'll appreciate the views even more. You'll be close up with locomotives and lock doors! :)
We took an open air train ride. It was a bumpy ride and no bathrooms, but if you can handle that, it was great. Nothing touristy about it and we saw a wild sloth and two howler monkeys. Would definitely want to visit Costa Rica again.
Could've been a five star, but we did not dock at the same pier that we sailed away from, so we needed to get on a bus and ride to another terminal. Also, there was a delay due to some medical emergency. Two ambulances and one fire truck was at the pier doing something. There was also someone getting arrested at the port, not from our ship, so there was security with blue lights everywhere.
