Don't go on the shopping trip or if you do...don't go into the rooms sellling carpet and purfume....too much time wasted. I don't know why my husband wanted to go on the shoppiing tour...neither one of us likes shopping. I think you would see the same stuff if you just walk to the city near the port.

I would suggest deleating this stop in exchange for more time at other ports. Although historically significant the port offered little. It was very hot and very dirty. The povery of the region was apparent.

La Goulette itself is just a tourist trap; we did manage to get out and see Tunis, which was more real. We did not get to see Carthage and Sidi Bou Said. Again, cabs are quite expensive here.

We had an advantage as my wife speaks Arabic. We got a taxi and I think we had a far better tour than the bus ones. Got to spend time where we wanted and learned a lot through conversation with the driver.
