Arrived here at the end of our Princess Cruise. Could not get into our hotel room until 3pm so we went off to explore the town. We took the City Loop Bus. A day pass cost us Y660. You can get on and off as many times as you like. We got off at stop 11 and headed up the Kobe Nunobiki Ropeway (a cable car). This cost us Y950 each for a one way ticket. This took us up to the Kobe Herb garden. This was fantastic. The gardens were fantastic. The food and drink in the gardens is VERY expensive. We then walked down the path to the bottom of the hill past the Nunobiki Falls. There is a small very traditional cafe just before the falls. We wished we had waited until we got here to eat the prices were very reasonable. We came out at the Shinkobe train station which had a City Loop bus stop. A great day. Other notable stops included China Town and various shopping streets.

Took the Osaka on your own excursion. 1 hour on the bus to Osaka. Osaka was the highlight of the whole trip. So much shopping and food! I know others said Kobe was just ok, so choose to go to Osaka!

Not that nice a port, too much emphasis was given to the shopping area, which is not that interesting a place to visit, and the food was very disappointing

Took a tour from the ship to see the UNESCO site of the yellow temple. Couldn’t get inside. Walked through the forest on a dirt cobblestone path. Nothing to see here, move along. We then went to another UNESCO site of a lord samurai. Big deal! Square brown house with some imitation painted silk screens. There are signs along the path through the house that explained what went on in each of the rooms, but it was extremely crowded. I got pushed aside a lot by rude people who wanted to read the sign. (I’m only 5’ tall, they should have been able to see around me). It may have been interesting, but we were rushed. I’d say skip this tour. For $179 you can see more and do more on your own.
