Don't need a shore excursion here. The port provides a free shuttle to downtown and everything is walkable from there. But there are only limited number of things to see.

Easy to visit the attractions without guided tour! View from the mountain is stunning but nighttime view is supposed to be spectacular if time alliws

Wonderful little town on an Ithmus. Easy to navagate from the fishmarkets to the fortress Goryokaku. Very walkable but quaint with its trams, some very modern and some vintage.

This was my second visit to Hakodate and I learnt on my first visit that a Day Pass for the local Street Car is the best and cheapest way to get around. Fortunately our ship docked at the main wharf close to the railway station. The Tourist Information Centre is right next door where you purchase the pass for just Y600 - go as far as you like, hop on and off wherever you wish. Must see are the Goryokaku Tower and Fort, Mt Hakodate lookout (Ropeway is currently out of service - so take taxi from tram stop), several shrines, Botanical tropical garden, Kanemori Red Brick warehouse and morning markets.

Fish markets have to be seen to be believed. The view from Mt Hakodate is nothing short of spectacular. Great ramen to be had in town, about 2 blocks from the train station.

Very much like San Francisco with tram and coastal city feel. There is a cable car trip - go on this if it is a clear day. You can walk around the hilly streets and visit various churches and ceremony. Good food places, lots of streets to explore. There was a firework display when it got dark. Try to do the cable car at night if it is a clear sky.

Small quaint fishing town on island of Hokkaido. Not much to do other than browse the red brick warehouse shops and ride the cable car to the top if the hill. There’s also a good fish market to browse where you can squid fish
