Very nice! A lot to do there! The Mayan tour & beach lunch were great! The guides were great!

If you just want to go shop or hang out with the partiers (and get delivered to the ship in a wheelchair), then you can just walk to the little village-on-the-pier. If you want to invest brain cells on a more cerebral activity, take an excursion to one of several Mayan ruin sites in the area. Fascinating and picturesque. The town of Progreso itself was rather depressing. None of the money coming in from the ships seems to have made it's way to the locals. Sad.

We used an outside agency for a tour to Dziblchultan ruins. The tour group was very large... around 35 people. But our guide was informative, friendly and funny. The ruins were awesome. Then we swam in the cenote at the site. It was a wonderful way to cool off after touring the ruins! On the negative side: the crafts market was crowded with people trying to sell you their items. Be prepared to haggle for a good price! Some souveniers were cheaper to buy here, and other items were better at Cozumel, which we also visited on this trip.

The poet was different. We did get an excursion but it got canceled due to the lack of people for that excursion. This was the only disappointment I had on this cruise. Otherwise it was a great cruise.

Progreso was great. Weather was great and the beach was fun. It was Mardi Gras so we got to see the parade and everyone was out and having a good time.

I am just not a fan of this port. We took the free bus into town to do some shopping and the locals were so aggressive. Even after being told no, some of them would still grab my toddlers arm to put a bracelet or ring on. We only spent about 15 minutes there before going back to port.
