LONG WAIT FOR THE BUS. 1 1/2 HOUR OF OUR 8 HOURS IN PORT. LONG PORT 3 MILES FROM LAND .THE BUS DROPPED US OFF BETWEEN 2 WAREHOUSE TYPE BUILDING. I WAS NOT SURE IT WAS EVEN A SAFE AREA. WE WALKED 1/2 BLOCK AND FOUND A SHOPPING AREA. THEN WE TOOK A OPEN AIR BUS TO SEE THE AREA. BEST DEAL WE FOUND. WE WERE JUST ONE BLOCK FROM THE BEACH . SO WE FOUND THE NICE AREA ,FOOD SHOPS BEACH, CHEAP BEER SHOPS FOR THE WIFE AND KID.

Guess we should have gone on an excursion, but it would have taken all our time. Wanted to spend time on the beach but the vendors WOULD NOT leave us alone. Broken shells and glass on beach. A man tried to sell me his "sister" when my wife's head was turned. If you took time to eat breakfast on the ship, you didn't have time to do much, anyway. Don't care to go back. A dirty little place.

There is not much at this port. You actually have to ride a bus into the city to experience much of Progreso. I really wish we would have stayed in Progreso this time. We did the excursion to the Mayan ruins and onto Mérida. The ruins were ok, there is a swimming area that is really pretty. By the time we finished at the ruins and went on to Mérida, we only had time to eat quickly as a group and head back to port. That was disappointing to me. I really Wish they would give more time at the ports.

Not much to see in Progresso. Nice if you just want to walk around, and see the culture. If you want to go to a larger city, you'll have to get transportation to Merida. My son and I enjoyed Progresso. They had a parade of school children. We enjoyed being in the middle of it all.
