I love the realness of the people of this port. Kind hard working people. So real! All we did was shop and had a super time! Such a different port than Cozumel it makes u thankful for what we have in our country. I felt safe with just me and kids.

We really enjoyed our time at this port. We did a tour through Sergio’s. It was fun and informative. We loved the ruins. I read a lot of negative reviews about Progreso. Im glad we didn’t stay on the ship.

Progreso is more of an authentic Mexican town vs a cruise port city like Cozumel. If you are willing to embrace the Mexican culture, you will love it! We booked a cenotes excursion through an AutoProgreso booth located at the pier and had a great time.

We really enjoyed Progreso. It is definitely not a tourist town, but the people are so authentically nice! As soon as we got off the shuttle bus, we walked out toward the beach and took a tour of Progreso on an open top, double-decker bus. $5 per person. There were only 4 of us on it up top, so we had our own personal guide. Just talking with him was so interesting. They let us stop at the colorful "Progreso" sign and he took photos with everyone's cameras. After the bus, we walked to the public beach. We were bombarded with people trying to get us to buy things, but a polite "no thank you" was all it took. We finally settled for a spot where we were offered a shaded canopy and 4 chairs with beach loungers for free as long as we ordered drinks. The ladies had $5 Pina Coladas and us guys got a bucket of beer. Six beers for $18. Yeah, we ended up with 2 buckets. Beach vendors were walking up and down trying to sell stuff. They took "no" really well. But we did talk with a few of them. Very interesting people who shared stories and took time with us. If you go, I really encourage you to get in some conversations. Fabulous people.

Had heard Progresso had nothing to do so we didn't even go out until almost noon. We took the free bus to the downtown flea market and walked a short distance to the beach where we found an empty beachside table at an outdoor restaurant (that had the yummiest free chips and salsa when you bought drinks) and that is where the fun began. :) Several locals approached our table and tried selling their wares- we actually bought several handmade pieces from them, including a guacamole bowl with a pestil that I just love. The water at the beach was beautiful- a bit cloudy but still blue and fun to play in. Our day was sadly shortened when a rainstorm came in but we bought a few more things on our way back through the flea market in the rain. Overall I enjoyed the local flair of Progresso much more than the private beach club we went to in Cozumel... I'd definitely go back again

The free shuttle into Progresso was air conditioned and comfortable. It dropped us off right in town in a market and within walking distance to the beach. Plenty of shopping. The beach was fine and we spend the day there. Very inexpensive drink and food options all over.

Decided not to do excursion, instead went to public beach. Cantina's everywhere....no problem getting amazing food or cheap drinks. Cheap beach chair rentals, very cheap massage on the beach. Overall paid less than a scheduled excursion but had all the amenities at my leisure. The local people work very hard to please you.

Progreso is a real life small city full of friendly people and great bargains if you know where to look. Walk to the public beach and soak in the local ambience. It’s not pretty, but full of character.

Since we had our 4 year old daughter with us we decided to do a beach day at Malecon beach which is close to the port. It was a pretty beach and we enjoyed playing and shopping before returning to the ship
