The bus to Progresso is free, then pick up the bus to Merida. The architecture and main square are beautiful, the people are friendly, and the prices are great. $10 for filet mignon at the restaurant across from the square.

We did the Merida tour and shopping. It was a bumpy ride from the ship. Learning about the Mayans and it’s ruins was interesting, but the tour guide took up too much time talking that most did not get to shop. We did eat at an authentic Mayan restaurant. My husband and I, sister n law , and daughter took a slight detour before getting on the bus I found a homemade ice cream store. We made it back to the bus 1 minute before we were to leave *whew* 😏. The port itself was swamped with vendors, even hanging around the historic Mayan church, they were hustling hard!!!(did not like that)

Be careful! My family and I took a bus to downtown Progresso to look around. We decided to take a tour of the ruins. While waiting for the van someone was taking a video of my teenage neice and daughter. We reported the incident but it could have turned dangerous. The town itself didn't feel safe.

Port was kinda blah but we did the Mayan Ruins excursion. Chichen Itza was amazing and the small village you stop at on the way is pretty cool. Leave the shops the bus stops at and walk down the town to the right and try a taco.

Suggestion for a day in Progreso: Check out yucatancenote.com We did Above & Below last year with Rene. Spending a day with him again in February. We have been all over Caribbean & done some REALLY cool stuff. This was the most amazing travel day ever. Private tours to ruins, cenotes & family homes/hacienda. Chris & Ruth run a world class eco adventure company. Fantastic people & a unique day you will remember forever. Worth every penny. Don't just take my word for it..check out TripAdvisor reviews.

Shop at the pier were ok. Took the free shuttle/bus into town & wasn’t very impressed. Definitely need to book some sort of excursion at this port.

Even though not much is there this place has a lot of potential, the beaches are very pretty and people are nice. Hopefully they will build more attractions and have more to do on land
