We saw the ruins then headed to a private beach resort. It was very nice we just needed more time.

Next time we would do the Mayan Ruin tour, staying in the local city was not that fun, as people were constantly hounding you to buy things, it got so bad - we just went back to the ship.

Get cheap beers and haggle for a beach massage. Mayan ruins are interesting if you are a history buff

Beach was dirty. dead fish, loads of trash, and seaweed. Not like other beaches we have visited worldwide.

Read up a little before you go and then you can do whatever interests you. Or you can enjoy a mostly empty ship while everyone else goes ashore!
