Next time we take the kids we will pick an overnight PV or Cabo. We did the Hop-on Hop-off tour offered by carnival the morning we arrived. They make three stops you can get on and off at. We should have gotten off in town with everyone else, but decided to stay on to avoid crowds. Shopping seemed like the usual stuff you see in other ports. The cliff diving event never happened because nobody would pre-tip the divers. The history lesson on the bus was the best part! We actually ended up getting our money refunded and spent time outside the ship eating and drinking before going back onboard. We did try to get tacos from the local vendors outside the shipping yard they drop you off in, but they had no desire to even give us eye contact. I'll post some photos of our experience on my profile. Glad we went to PV next and enjoyed a beach getaway at Las Caletas. https://www.vallarta-adventures.com/tours/las-caletas-day-trip

This is just one review and you can take it or leave it! I think they should skip this port all together and go somewhere else! As soon as we were waiting for our bus and the tour guide said our bus is here it just can’t get past security, we should’ve turned around and got back on the ship! Leaving the terminal heading into town you are greeted by security completely covered, face, eyes etc! Machine guns await you on the other side of the gate and you realize this is the part of Mexico, America warns you against traveling to! As a matter of fact, the only reason I even got off the ship was because my mother in law boasted about how beautiful this place was 41 years ago, well things change! Stay on the ship or choose a different itinerary!

Port was okay if you like freight handling and watching ship and trucks get loaded and unloaded. Outside of this aspect the tour busses were at the dock ready to go once all were accounted for and dropped us back off at front entry to port where we had to get a ride on a shuttle which was like the baggage handler at the airport. We did the All Inclusive Resort excursion which for the most part was good with open bar but down side no food offered. But beautiful property and service was great. Again not enough time in port to do more than 1 activity, each port should have at least 12hrs to allow passangers sufficient time to explore or do more than one excursion.

The port was okay, most of the stuff we did was away from port. We went on the all inclusive beach resort getaway, booked through Carnival. This excursion is a little overpriced (my opinion), but with that out of the way. The staff are very nice, our bus guide was great with all kind of fun information. The beach part is overran at times by peddlers selling everything from hats to blankets, wood carvings you name it, lol. The El Cid staff does try to control them, they are only supposed to be let out by the guest in small numbers and have a security guard trying to control that, but a lot of the peddlers ignore the security staff and get run off just to pop back up when security turns it's back. The drinks offered were very good and on the beach it seemed every time you finished your last swallow a waiter was their to see if you wanted another (great service). We were among the first into the buffet when it opened and that seemed to be the downside of the excursion for us. The food was all cold, we informed the staff and a chef came right out and tried the food then went immediately to getting more warmers and apologized. The food other than being cold when we ate it was okay. Nice selection of Mexican dishes and I'm sure had it been hot we would have enjoyed it. After eating we went on to the pools. The pool with the caves is the best and made the trip worth it. Great service on drinks again and iguanas everyplace. The pools definitely make the trip. The major downfall for this excursion is time. Not enough to fully get comfortable and enjoy it all before it's time to go. Add 2 more hours and this excursion would be great and worth the price.. After the excursion did some shopping at the port markets. Fun and lots of stuff to be had there.

We were mobbed by street vendors and taxi drivers. The whole shopping experience is not as fun. We do not drink alcohol and most of the excursions are center around alcohol. We have been to Mazatlan multiple times, so we mainly shopped for gifts for our children and grandchildren.
