We love Hilo as we have been twice before. Again we booked excursion through Carnival. Our tour guide had a great personality but was not very informative.

Pahoehoe blocks several roads south of Hilo. No lava flowing when we were there. Turtles at beach/lagoon close to where the ship docks.

This was a short stay as well. We took a "Water Falls" excursion. One falls was beautiful, but took some extra stamina to get to the viewing area.

Great port, I've visited before and enjoyed it. Pick-up an excursion off the ship that took us around to close by attractions, (i.e., Local farmers market, Rainbow Falls & Mauna Macadamia Farm).

When in Hilo, you must see Volcanoes National Park. Rent a car and do it on your own. You can hike out to the place where lava flows into the ocean, or if that's too far, you can walk to the spot where the lava ran over the road. A no parking sign sticks out of mounds of black lava. Good picture spot.

Took Roberts excursion to Hawaii Volcanoes and Big Island Candy. The guide maximized our time in the park which was what we were hoping for. Back by 12, we ubered to Rainbow Falls. The guide waited for us while we took some pictures and then drove us to Richardson's black sand beach. Nice little lagoon to swim in...wish we had snorkel stuff with us. Ubered back to the ship

Weather was poor and the island was just "ok". However, the excursion I chose made up for it - Zip Line. Great fun and very professional staff.
