Review summary

This was a very enjoyable cruise. The only complaint was the rough ride on several sea days. The ship is showing age and needs some TLC to update and provide for current needs - more outlets/USB charging facilities. The shows were good, and overall the entertainment was appropriate for the 8 sea days. We are not gamblers, thus the various Bingo games were not of interest to us. Shopping on ship and in port was OK, but different from our previous Caribbean itineraries.

Embarkation

Most went well. Slight issue with port Covid testing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Overall the food and beverage service was excellent. Our servers were attentive and friendly. The buffet was good, but not always super hot.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We participated in several trivia games. We enjoyed the Punchliner comedy clubs.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The evening shows were good - the best was Chuck Wagner - a Broadway star who performed numbers from shows in which he starred.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean and in constant state of being cleaned. The only issue was some of the voyage was very rough - and rumor was that the "stabilizers" were not operational.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was nice, however not as well appointed as the stateroom we had on the Sunrise in December 2021. There was only one electrical outlet which made charging various electronics challenging as well as getting power to a sleep appliance. The ship did supply an extension cord - with only one outlet.

Ship tip

If the rumor was correct and the ship could have had less motion, I would suggest checking if the ship has been to refit to fix the stabilizers.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

4 out of 5
The facility for embark and debark was well equipped and seemed to be well suited for the process.

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
There is much to do here. The time in port was relatively long, but the excursions had some difficulty. If Pear Harbor is a desired destination, be sure any excursion that includes PH also has reserved tickets to visit the Arizona memorial. Many folks who had the Carnival booked tour DID NOT get to visit the memorial. We booked thru CheapCruises and did have reserved tickets to the memorial.

Kahului, Maui

4 out of 5
The port was good, but not enough time.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

3 out of 5
This is a tender port. The ship used the life boats to do the tendering to the port. We had an excursion was was good. The water was rough and it took a lot of care to get on and off the life boat tenders.

Hilo, Hawaii

3 out of 5
This was a short stay as well. We took a "Water Falls" excursion. One falls was beautiful, but took some extra stamina to get to the viewing area.

Ensenada, Mexico

2 out of 5
Our excursion was to "Wine Country". It was poorly planned and the time from the ship was not adequate to do what was indicated.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This went very well!!! Carnival's facial recognition made this process work smoothly.
