Review summary

The cruise ship is an older ship. Lots of creaking sounds. The service was outstanding. The food was mixed, some good, some not so good. Embarkation and debarkation could have been better organized. It is very cold and the water is rough traveling from California and Hawaii.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Very confusing procedures. None of the port staff could help answer basic questions. Very disorganized. You had to pre-register for a Covid test to get on the ship. That was never clearly expressed to us. We were first on the line to embark and then when the QR code sign was put out, everyone went ahead of us. We tried to board with our friends, but the woman wouldn't let us. 3 minutes later they let everyone board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The buffet food wasn't good. The buffet should have been left open later when in port. Breakfast in the dining room was ok. The service was very slow and some dishes had to be sent back as they were made incorrectly. Lunch in the dining room was better. Dinner in the dining room was usually good. The service at dinner was excellent.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The activities onboard were good. Because it was so cold and rough crossing the Pacific, we couldn't enjoy the outdoors for several days of our trip.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The DJ was excellent. The comedians were very good, especially Dylan.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was excellent. Our room steward Sholihn was great. Our waiters were great especially our dinner waiters. Heshbon and Valdemar were fantastic. They were very entertaining. Valdemar is an outstanding singer.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It's an older ship, but it was fine.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Bed and pillows were very comfortable. More hangers are needed in the closets. Our room steward kept the room clean.

Ship tip

I wouldn't recommend going to Hawaii by ship. 8 days at sea was way too long. It is cold and very rough crossing the Pacific in February.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

Honolulu, Oahu

We did a bus tour of an overview of Oahu. It was long and didn't give enough time at each site. We felt very rushed.

Kahului, Maui

4 out of 5
We went to the beach on our own. We went to the Luau on an excursion. It was very commercial and way too expensive for what we got. The food wasn't good.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

4 out of 5
We went on the whale watching excursion on the Zodiac. It was a great time. We saw several whales and dolphins.

Hilo, Hawaii

4 out of 5
We went on a bus tour of Hilo. It went to a couple of waterfalls(lots of walking up and down stairs) Then we went to a chocolate factory that was very expensive. We would rather have gone shopping in an area that had a variety of shops. The tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Ensenada, Mexico

2 out of 5
We went into town on our own. The taxi driver quoted one price and then charged another. We should have taken the shuttle which was cheaper. We would have liked to try one of the local restaurants, but there wasn't enough time at that port.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
It took a very long time to get off the ship. We waited around for a very long time.
