Review summary

The NCL Pride of Hawaii's best aspect is actually it's itinerary. No other cruise line sails inter-island Hawaii only, and with so much to do in Hawaii, why go anywhere else! Hawaii is truly paradise. A trip here is one to be remembered forever, and will be hard to top. The Pride of Hawaii is new, and in that respect the rooms and facilities are nice and clean. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff, as I'd read many poor reviews before we sailed. There is little in the way of entertainment, but we did not mind as we spent very little time on the ship. The food quality, quantity and service was relatively poor. The crew in these areas seemed in general the most unpleasant. Communication on the ship could be better. Few announcements were made, and things we would have like to see were missed (whales playing in the water of the back of the ship). All in all, the ship was "good". If we had a choice of another line, we would probably choose it, but for us, this was really just an affordable, easy way to see 4 of the Hawaiian Islands in one trip, and that I would never pass up.

Ports of call

Nawiliwili, Kauai

The zipline tour and tubing the ditch are activities you'll never forget and by far the best excursions we've ever taken. Flying through the trees and crossing rope bridges, tubing through a sugar cane plantation irrigation canal... where else can you do that?? Also a good port to rent a car and drive to the canyon. The ship passes the Na Pali coast as you leave so you don't need the expensive helicopter tour to see it.
Don't Miss: Zipline tour through "Just Live" and Tubing the Ditch

Hilo, Hawaii

When in Hilo, you must see Volcanoes National Park. Rent a car and do it on your own. You can hike out to the place where lava flows into the ocean, or if that's too far, you can walk to the spot where the lava ran over the road. A no parking sign sticks out of mounds of black lava. Good picture spot.
Don't Miss: Seeing the active volcano and plume of smoke as lava hits the ocean water.

Kahului, Maui

So much to do in Maui. Maui Ocean Center is great. Snorkeling is always good. Lahaina is a great town to visit and shop at.
Don't Miss: Road to Hana

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Kona is a gorgeous place. Easy to rent a car and explore on your own. Snorkeling is great. We were swimming with green sea turtles, the state fish "humuhumunukunukuapua'a", unicorn fish, yellow tangs, convict fish...

Pros: The itinerary can't be beat.

Cons: The food service and quality leaves room for improvement
