Plan on excursions as Hilo itself isn't worth visiting. The helicopter tours of the Volcano are awesome but I think people stopped investing in the town when the risk of being wiped out by an eruption became a real possibility.

Not my favorite stop but the town was fun and the Botanical Garden was great. We saw Sea Turtles on this stop.

Good port, but we would rather have had the day on Maui. Did a ship based excursion that was nice, however, it lacked the quality of similar tours by non-ship providers that we observed ... although our tour guide was Exceptional
