We stayed in Venice for 3 night before our cruises. Beautiful city. Very very expensive but like anywhere you can make it as cheap/expensive as you want

Venice is exactly as you'd imagine it... except the crowds. There are throngs of people almost everywhere. Sometimes you can find a quieter alleyway or street, but it was uncommon when we were there. There are pushy salespeople selling everything from roses to sticky silicon creatures to selfie sticks (ugh). Just try your best to ignore them or say no. I'm not saying I didn't like it though - I loved it. The city is beautiful, charming, and it's nice to be away from cars and motorcycles. We also went to the island of Murano - known for its glassmaking. It's like a smaller, quieter version of Venice. Very cute and we had our best meal in Italy there. I'd definitely recommend bringing a good camera, both for day and night. I took some long exposure nighttime shots that I was pretty happy with.

Ship excursion was a waste of money. This tour was a boat ride around Venice without any stops and only brief narration. It was a nice boat ride but not at all worth the price, as we didn’t really experience a “tour guide” experience. Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Cathedral and Glass Showroom - This was a terrible tour and really a waste of money. The guide spent a minimal amount of time with us and then it was mainly on our own. What did we pay for? Finally, the Glass Showroom was just a marketing ploy to get us to buy Murano Glass products. I am sure that you get some kind of cut on what we buy there. I didn’t pay to be pushed into buying products during a tour that I already paid for????

Don't be fooled - you are not in Venice for 2 days. You are in Venice the day you embark and then leave at 1am THAT NIGHT! They make you think you leave at 1am the following evening, but that is incorrect. Arrive to Venice a day or so before your trip so you can explore it on your own. It's an incredible city - no need to book an excursion with the cruise ship.

Was like stepping onto a film set, absolutely beautiful. We bought all day tickets for the water bus and used it to visit most of the sights and Murano island to see the glass works

You really must stay an extra 1-2 days, ship not in port till 2pm so at most you'll have 5 hrs daylight up to midnight to find way back to ship. Venice is very confusing: we used our phone GPS with pre-loaded while on wifi maps. However staying a 2nd day in hotel gave us a full 10 hrs of time to check out main sights, gondola ride, art gallery & have great meal that evening as well. Our fav spot!
