We had a terrible time in Venice. Most of it was due to weather delaying our ability to port on schedule which caused a more cluster when they tried to get us aboard the water taxis and into Venice. Not well organized and made us wait around doing nothing for too long.

We were underwhelmed. During high season it’s just too much, felt mostly like a tourist trap. Make your way to the outer edges of Venice for a better experience. Our highlights were Dal Moro’s Pasta- To-go pasta that will be better than anything you sit down to eat at in Venice. La Carta shop close to Rialto Bridge was a wonderful true local Venetian paper shop filled with handmade leather journals and marbled paper.

Most unique city I’ve ever been to. Hated & Loved it at the same time. Absolutely no night life - the city seemed to shut down at 9pm. Extremely muggy, hot, humid, crowded, expensive, and difficult to get around. Yet beautiful, historic, exquisite, with delicious wines and foods. No buzz of the highway or road traffic anywhere. Seemed like 100% tourists there which makes it come off as more of an amusement park than city. Yet my favorite part was the most touristy of all, St. Mark’s Square. Enjoyed a cicchetti crawl which was nice, but pales in comparison to a tapas crawl in Madrid.

Stayed in a Airbnb for two days before our cruise and I didn’t want to leave. Venice is magical!! We got off the beaten path and explored empty back roads, we just kept making turns and getting lost but it was great fun.

Nostalgic. We did the evening gondola ride which was romantic and beautiful, complete with moonlight, ringing bells, and music. The second day after taking the ship’s easy shuttle for $15 each, we toured St. Marks on our own and had a drink on the square at the same outdoor cafe we had a drink thirty years before. Lovely, and the sail away from the port was beyond words.
