Alesund has been my least favourite port so far on my Norwegian cruise. Although a major fishing town it doesn't offer much in the way of the fishing history apart from the Fiskerimuseet fishing museum. Most museums/tours relate to the art deco houses and the last major town fire of 1904. If you aren't an art deco fan, then there's not much to see and do unless you head out of town. So head beyond Alesund and check out the outdoor Sunnmøre Museum, or if you're good with heights walk, or catch the hop on/off coach up to the Aksla viewpoint for a stunning view... which will include at least two cruise boats.

There was loads of tourists arriving at the same time so very difficult to get Shore excursions. Viking boat was a good experience and I would this again.

Take the Hoppa Bus right outside the ship - much much cheaper than anything Carnival has to offer
