Great Port and Great tour with lots of stops. Went to Pushkin and did the castle's tour. Lots of beautiful architecture and a very nice city. Need to go on a tour or get a Visa to be on your own.

We bookes a private excrusion with cruiseonly, but they must explain that its private, not with MSC, at the time to disembarque for inmigration that may cause some problems. The excursion was a little bit cheaper than with MSC and we were only 3 people, so perfect

We booked a morning and afternoon excursion. Showed up at 7am after breakfast to go to Catherine's Palace, only to be told that the trip was cancelled. They tried to tell me that they had put a note under our cabin door and tried to contact us but they hadn't. One of the ladies later admitted to me that they had hoped up to the last minute to get some more English speakers to go on the trip. They didn't and cancelled at the last minute. No compensation for getting up at 6am and having to stay on ship until afternoon trip into St Petersburg. Very, very bad show on their behalf.

On the 1st day we were there I had to cancel my tours that were planned due to my ailment. My girlfriend took 2 tours on her own. The second day we took the Cathedral of spilled blood and River cruise which, although interesting, once again not enough time to take in all the information and sights. For the prices that one has to pay, maybe they should supply you with a memory stick filled with information and photographs to take home as a souvenir. Its impossible to manage it all oneself.

A tour guide is a must. Do not try to visit this port city by yourself. Ignore everything Royal Caribbean says about RCL Shore Excursions ... you are welcome to book your own tours with third party companies which are often more affordable and customizable. We had a terrific private tour guide -- just my friend and I and a local guide who spoke wonderful English. Definitely take time to get out of St. Petersburg proper ... get out to Peterhof and Pushkin. It's a long drive (about an hour) but well worth the trip. And the Hermitage ... pace yourself ... there's just so much to see that you could spend the entire stay there and still not see even half of the exhibits.

We made the right decision to go with the Cruise excursion in Russia. You need a visa to go into Russia. Since we were there two days, you need a visa with multiple entries. Two ladies sit at our dinning table from Bulgaria only had single entry visa. They had to stay overnight in St. Petersburg for the two-day stay in Russia. The customs line was long and slow. You need to have all the documents ready when get off board. No visa required when we booked the excursion with Costa.

This was our second visit in St. Petersburg. The company we hired was excellent but was not advised that one of their clients was disabled and the rest of the tour (we were 10) suffered having to await for the procedures to move her along in a city that is not prepared for handicapped. No elevators, no side walks, no ramps. Too many tourist at the Hermitage with Asian crowds invading rooms and pushing people around. They are still far behind in manners regarding the right of others.
