If it was not for the food poisoning that I endured, then I think I could write an even more positive review. My girlfriend enjoyed every aspect of the cruise (this was her 3rd cruise with me). The Medical Center and staff were perfect in every way with the exception of the final results given to me. They put it down as a peptic ulcer. I went for an endoscope when I returned to make sure. Absolutely nothing there, so, it was definately food poisoning, but of course the ship I guess did not want that broadcasting everywhere. NCL were kind enough to refund 90% of my pre-booked shore excursion but I for sure lost out on being able to eat and drink for over 50% of the cruise. Would I sail with them again? Yes. I think that it also helps that I worked on the cruise ships in my younger years, 13 cruise liners over the course of 6 years so I can understand and relate to almost all aspects.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Absolutely A1. Am a previous cruiser with NCL and latitudes program. Instantly onboard
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Overall, everything was probably better than OK with 1 exception. After my evening meal at Cagneys all was fine until 4am. I then started a 48 hour nightmare of sickness, diahrea, IV drugs and over a 2000USD medical bill (I was insured so should get some or all of the money back)
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We took main advantage of the empty hot tubs (around 38C / 104F) and then jumping to cool down in the pool. Also used the fitness center most mornings
Entertainment
Only went to see the opening show so cannot rate any of the others
Children's Programs
NO KIDS :-)
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We received excellent service absolutely everywhere, especially at the pool bar and O´sheehans. The team at O´sheehans went equal, over and well above for us
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I cannot say that I found one dirty area at all, maybe sometimes some of the tables at the buffet were not cleaned up to well, but that was far and few between
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
A small balcony, but, taking into consideration the weather (at best around 10 - 12C) we did not really utilise it. Other than that the cabin was absolutely fine for the two of us.
Ship tip
If you are a bit of a drinker, then hopefully have a drinks package because the prices without are extortionate and unnecessarily so in my opinion
We stayed there for 3 nights prior to the cruise. Beautifull city with absolutely loads to see and do. We purchased a 48hr pass for the Trains, Metro and Subway. Really easy to get around
On the 1st day we were there I had to cancel my tours that were planned due to my ailment. My girlfriend took 2 tours on her own. The second day we took the Cathedral of spilled blood and River cruise which, although interesting, once again not enough time to take in all the information and sights. For the prices that one has to pay, maybe they should supply you with a memory stick filled with information and photographs to take home as a souvenir. Its impossible to manage it all oneself.
@doddser NCL usually has separate lines for each level of latitudes. Your kids should have no problem checking in with you as they are underage. Never had any issues checking in with NCL!
Can I ask when you get to the terminal to board Is there a line for silver /gold members ? We’re both gold members but our 6 kids aren’t and can’t accrue points being under 21. Can I board quicker than others as I’m gold member and latitude ? It’s just that I’ve only ever seen especially lines for the Haven ?
Peptic ulcers don’t produce diarrhea and are essentially impossible to diagnose without an endoscopy, so it’s strange that they gave you that diagnosis. It was likely viral gastroenteritis, rather than food poisoning. The timing is usually the only way to differentiate, which is still difficult to do. Regardless, I’m sorry you were affected like this. That’s a great ship and itinerary. Better cruising next time!
