The excursion I was on told me when I got on the bus that we would need to cover four miles in three hours. Being disabled and having walking problems I asked if there would be any sort of accommodation and was told to take a cab back to the boat when we reach our first stop. So I made my own day in Amsterdam and it was better than any one the ship could provide!

One of main reasons for selecting the cruise....this port gets us to a great part of Europe. Amsterdam expensive and big city, but a great location to end the cruise and see more of Europe.

Really enjoyed Amsterdam.Vibrant but very,very crowded. If you are going on canal trip go early and use one of the small boats. They go down the small canals. Much more interesting.

We spent three days prior to the cruise here and ranked this city #1 of all those visited on this cruise. Great vibe, plenty to do, and friendly people. Keep your eyes on the bikes! We booked our own hotel and excursions and transportation to/from the cruise ship terminal. Check out Hotel Fita if you need a convenient, small boutique hotel with a nice breakfast in a great location (close to the Rikksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, outer canal, and trams). For excursions, try Mike's Bike Tours, the Blue Boat Canal tour for a night cruise (9:30 was a great time in summer), the Van Gogh Museum and the Hop on Hop Off canal boat tour. Pompa is also a nice restaurant close to the hotel.

Took a canal boat ride, visited a couple of museums and had a nice time at Rijksmuseum. If you go there, visit Anne Frank House where she held up hiding from the Germans during WWII. Very moving experience. Book on line ahead of time, it's very busy to get into.

Loved Amsterdam. We stayed 2 nights after we disembarked. Went to the Anne Frank Museum and was amazed at the story and what they had to go through, actually seeing and being in the rooms where they had to hide for 2 years. We also went to Albert Cuyp Market and tried the Stroopwaffles and pickled herring. Both were amazing. Getting the stroopwaffle hot off the press with a slather of caramel in the center as life changing. My wife would not try the herring, but it was also excellent. Not at all fishy as you would expect, very clean tasting, covered with chopped onions and served with a pickle. One thing to note, if you and to see the Anne Frank Museum, buy you tickets online. They go on sale 2 months before they day you want to go. If you wait, you will most likely not get in. Also, although you do not need a 2 month window like you do for the Anne Frank, you will need to buy your ticket to Van Gogh or Rijksmuseum museums, which we found out the hard way. We were able to visit Rembrandt's house museum, which is different that the Rijksmuseum. It is the house where Rembrandt lived for 20 years painting, teaching and dealing in art. We did not have to pre-purchase tickets for the house, we were able to just walk in a visit.
