Serenade of the Seas

16 Night Transatlantic Eastbound (Ft. Lauderdale To Copenhagen)

Sail date: April 26, 2019

Ship: Serenade of the Seas

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

This was our first trip to Northern Europe, and we loved it. The Serenade is a very nice ship...although we missed the Promenade Deck that we enjoy so much on the Navigator/Explorer class. Crew and staff were absolutely wonderful. This ship has a great “personality”...reflected in the smiles on all the faces. Gotta start with the Captain...and it carries throughout the ship from there. We have 30+ cruises under our belts, including 6 Atlantic / Pacific crossings, and know what to expect. We are big fans of RCCL, as they always deliver a great cruising experience.

Embarkation

Super quick and easy. RCCL has really figured this out.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Excellent in all venues. Quality and service on Royal Caribbean is consistently good, but was noticeably improved on this cruise.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Hard to rate, as we elected to not use the pool area that much. Good offerings of activities throughout the ship, though.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
All excellent, especially the classical guitarist.

Children's Programs

Didn’t use.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent steward (Lukmon), Dining Room waiter (Vimi), Giovanni’s waiter (Noria), safari Club bar tender (Mersin).

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship looked great...saw no signs of age, or need for improved maintenance.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a standard balcony cabin, and it was exactly what we expected. About 160 sf, with a decent size balcony.

Ship tip

The Park Cafe, located in the Solarium is a great place to get a late night snack, sandwich, or dessert.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
The port is very close to the airport, which is super convenient.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

4 out of 5
Been there before. This time we did a whale watching trip...it was incredible.

Cobh (Cork), Ireland

5 out of 5
We rented a car at the pier, and spent the day exploring. Went to Kilkenny and Waterford. Awesome day.

Le Havre (Paris), France

5 out of 5
Took an excursion to Normandy...a can’t miss! Tremendous historical significance. Make sure you take one that includes Hoc’s Point...where American Rangers climbed the cliffs to take out the Nazi machine guns and artillery bunkers.

Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium

4 out of 5
Beautiful town. Sight seeing excursion got a bit redundant with all the historical significance of the architecture.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

5 out of 5
Loved it. Best cheeses I have ever eaten. Bought the city pass for canal boats, trains, and buses. Totally worth it.

Copenhagen, Denmark

5 out of 5
Awesome! We spent 4 days, staring at the Kong Arthur Hotel. Great location, with proximity to bus / train lines. Bought the city pass for canal boat/bus/subway/train. So much to see. Wonderful people. Has become one our top 3 cities, along with Barcelona and Brisbane.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy.
