So much to do right off the ship. Don't need an excursion, can see it all on your own. Take the Barratka lift up to street level from the harbor. Don't miss St. John's co-cathedral. Tons of interesting musuems: grandmaster's palace, war museum, hospital and war rooms. Eat lunch at Café Cordina right next to the grandmaster's palace. Leave some time to wander the alleys and shop.

We did not do an excursion here but took the hop on hop off bus, which stopped at many places we weren’t interested in getting off. We did get off in Mdina which was a cute area again plenty of shops etc. we wanted to continue to the blue grotto but we were afraid it would take too long.

Malta looked fab and we decided to do the Hop On Hop Off bus. We got on the bus to start the tour but it started to rain very heavily so everybody including us had to rush downstairs. We were all told to get off the bus at its first stop. No explanation just that another bus would follow. Over an hour later waiting in a thunderstorm with the horses and finally a few of us decided to share a taxi back to the ship as we were soaked. We passed the bus as we were near the port so sadly we didn't get to see mych of Valetta. I do not recommend the Hop On Hop Off buses here as further research mentioned a similar outcome for other people but much further away frim the port which meant a hefty taxi fare. Upside of course was the rain stopped but we chilled at the pool on the ship.
